Nadezhda Alliluyeva remained in history as the wife of a famous leader of Joseph Stalin. Her life was far from cloudless, she could not cope with internal contradictions, and she herself stopped her life.

Nadezhda was born in the city of Baku, in the family of a desperate revolutionary of Sergey Alliluyev. There is practically no information about the mother.

# ACQUAINTANCE WITH STALIN

When she was only 16, Nadezhda fell head over heels in a handsome Georgian — Joseph. Alliluyeva's father was very alarmed by the ovewhelmed passion of his daughter, and not because of the age difference of 23 years, but because of the compulsive and obstinate nature of his daughter (due to the father’s line she inherited partially gipsy blood), which was in no way suitable for a partner of an active politician. True, his point of view did not affect the fact that soon Stalin took Alliluyeva to the fighting line. The love of Nadezhda and Joseph was mutual, he was reverent towards the girl, at least, it was so at the beginning of the relationship.

A year later they got married, and in 1921 Nadezhda gave birth to a son, Vasily, and five years later to a daughter Svetlana. Stalin already had one son from a previous marriage and, they say, he did not like any of his sons (maybe he considered them rivals?), so the birth of a daughter was a great event for him. He pampered Sveta a lot, and, most likely, loved her.

# FAMILY CONFLICTS

Stalin saw a housewife and a caring mother in his wife, but Nadezhda did not share this idea, so she was not entirely fit for the role of the first lady. She went to work for the People's Commissariat for Nationalities, and for some time was part of the Lenin secretariat. In addition, Nadezhda actively participated in cooperation with the magazine of "Revolution and Culture" and the newspaper of "Pravda".
But despite this, she was ready to make concessions for her husband's sake. And, when she worked with Lenin, she announced one day about her dismissal, but Vladimir Ilyich asked her not to leave and personally solved the issue with Stalin directly.
Nadezhda insisted on going to study at the academy to the department of the textile industry. One of her beliefs was that a woman should have a job and she should be socially active.

The second difficult moment in the relationship was Nadezhda’s jealous nature: she was jealous even to the wife of the husband's hairdresser. But the truth is that her jealousy was not unreasonable: Stalin had affairs on the side, and with some women he did ended up inhumanly. It is interesting that even under such circumstances, Nadezhda continued to love Stalin and tolerate his boorish attitude, which caused much pain.

To all else, for Nadeshda it was hard to accept what was happening in the country on the orders of Stalin. She traveled the USSR quite a lot, she heard stories from people about strict repressions and massacres of oppositionists, because Stalin was concerned that no one could push him away from the leader’s position, and he was overwhelmed by industrialization process in the country. Nadezhda felt devastated because of that.

# LEAVING THE LIFE

There is no one single version, why Nadezhda committed suicide, and, for sure, there never will be. At the age of 31, she shot herself in the head, as some sources say, or in the heart, as others point out.

Why did she finished with her life?

The presumed first reason is jealousy and public rudeness on the husband’s part at the meeting of the whole party elite, reinforced by previous grievances and conflicts. That day, November 7, 1932, Nadezhda looked very pretty, but Stalin did not pay attention to her — he flirted with one of the present ladies. And when everyone began to drink, and Nadezhda refused because of a headache, he threw an orange peel at her with a cry: "Hey, you, drink!" Alliluyeva cut off that she was not "hey, you" and rushed out of the room. On November 9, she was found dead in the room.

The second reason could have been a planned murder by Stalin himself, because Alliluyeva became more like his political enemy than his wife and she was on his way.
The third version speaks of a brain disease: due to the fact that the bones of the skull were misplaced, Nadezhda was tormented by severe attacks of headache, and this could not even be influenced by doctors from Germany. Secondary to quarrels with her husband, Nadezhda decided that she did not want to continue living.

Svetlana, daughter of Alliluyeva, said that the quarrel between the parents that evening was not very great, and this could not become the main impetus to suicide. In all likelihood, Nadezhda had strong internal conflicts — she had to restrain herself, always monitor the behavior, tame her displeasure with the husband's behavior. But it should be remembered that at that time Svetlana was only 6, and all her reflections are very likely based on memories and discussions of the mother's death with close friends and relatives.

Whatever the reason, the fact is that the death of the wife greatly influenced the leader. A couple of years later, during a confidential conversation, Stalin said: "The children, they forgot her in a few days, and she crippled me for the whole life".

I do not know what to believe ... A couple of years ago I saw the film "The Wife of Stalin" and remember that I concluded about the death of Nadezhda Alliluyeva the following: she felt hopeless because she was horrified by what her husband did, she flipped between love to him and his terrible essence.

It is a pity that there are such young people who leave this world on their own wish so early…
