Day 2 in Johannesburg
It is now 2 days later after my trip to Johannesburg and I would like to pick up were we left off. I got so busy at home that I hardly had time to connect with you guys and tell you about my journey, day to day. But I took all the pictures and am now ready to share with you. Now I am back in Cape Town and relaxing after such a hectic Easter Weekend.

If you missed the first post, Day 1, where I talked about our trip to China Town you can read the post [here](https://steemit.com/travel/@cryptoprofessor/my-trip-to-johannesburg).

### So here we go - Day 2 in Joburg

We woke up in the morning all fired up and refreshed, ready to face the day. Our program for day 2 was to do the Red Bus tour in the city of Johannesburg. There are different times at which the bus departs so you don't have to worry about missing the tour. If you miss the 9:45am one you can catch the 10:15am or the next one. The times are 30 minutes apart, so there is always the next one to catch. This goes on the entire day, until around 4:45pm I think.

This is a guided tour that takes you around the city. You learn about different landmarks, places of importance and how certain infrastructure came into existence, the history behind a certain building or how the people in a particular area lived.

### Different Kinds of Tours.
There are 2 main types of tours that one can do. There's an Open-Top Bus Tour and Live Guided Tour.

#### Open-Top Bus Tour
There are three different tickets available: 2-day ticket, 1-day ticket, and a Sunday Sizzler. So we went for the one day ticket.

![Tour To Jozi.png](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmPEZJ59qzdkzLvZDYh4JJimPfGM8d1PK5kengN5GMxCT6)

R180 is about $15. There were 4 of us: me, my wife, and my wife's parents. The baby did not pay. This is the one we went for, and even though it was just one day we still learned a lot. I can imagine the two day one they add more activities and more things to learn, but we didn't have much time so we had to squeeze everything in one day, as far as the Joburg City tour is concerned. But it was still super educational nonetheless. The tour guide is in a form of audio here.

### Live Guided Tours

As the words suggest. In this tour there is actually a tour guide that does the explaining and the tour with you, as opposed to the audio on the Open-Top Bus. The cost is also different here and and there are different types of tours here as well. You will see different prices below.

![Soweto tour3.png](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmYhirHtv9hGpYYD5DP8ZAPYpKTT433opLrff4dttPEzAA)

The Soweto Tours are also very educational. As a matter of fact I will share my own experience of our own tour to Soweto. We did this on a separate day, not by bus. However, here are the activities that the bus takes you to. These are the activities you get to do in Soweto, through the bus tour.

That's not a comprehensive list. You can go to the [citysighseeing.co.za](https://www.citysightseeing.co.za/johannesburg/products/johannesburg-live-guided-tours) for more information.

### Here's more pictures we took on tour.

#### Johannesburg Park Station

![IMG_0182.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmfQWpzs9YMQ6UHoewG3YUCHXMYii38qdh6EEHd7dZn6vD)

This is the Johannesburg Park Station. It's basically a Taxi Rank where the taxis take you to different locations in the country. It is very big. The country has 9 provinces so you can imagine.

Usually taxis take cover smaller radiuses but it is not uncommon to get a taxi that has a destination around 500km. For this purpose, however, people would usually take a bus. There are buses too at Park Station. These take you to far away places, different provinces and others to certain neighbouring countries like Namibia, Zimbabwe, etc. Don't want to ride a bus? There is also a train here. So yes, it is a pretty huge station.

#### This a Nelson Mandela Building.

![IMG_0183.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmTbB2KcntEgQHx46BWmS8d2tVy5MYuvQSeuLr8ghaS3EE)

There are a few of them in Johannesburg. This was a man of great influence and played a HUGE role in the direction of the country and is responsible for the democratic, peaceful country that we now live in. So you can expect that there would be a vast history on him in the country.

#### Gandhi Mall

![IMG_0186.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXYiRbGkTXK35HS2ZrASvM8hrXAGBLX3eum7j2W2gkUW5)

This is a famous mall in Johannesburg built after the famous Mahatma Gandhi. He stayed in South Africa for a few years to pursue the fight against discrimination and racism in the country. So this mall was built in his recognition and tribute.

#### Gold Reef City

![IMG_0194.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmdtUFGCJSDBRPtmtKEW4NgUzQpLHxKMwM35HnzWCXu3DX)

You like having fun and have your kids join in? This is the place to be. It's an amusement park with lots of different activities for kids, mainly, and adults alike. There's different activities to do here, the whole day you can just chill at the amusement park and spend your day with family there. So as you can imagine we did not have enough time here. I don't think one can ever have enough time in such places hahahha!!!

#### I liked the shape of this building.

![IMG_0187.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmPYuDWvoX1ka17dChTMmZxgR7gHH2bvDCDypVBK9kMRuC)

There is also a history behind this building but for the life of me I cannot remember lol, too much information to absorb.

#### And here's another one.

![IMG_0198.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmR4CHn13DE2svFNhnf7kHh2Z2gH5Rq8VAuSfsmpXKTbCc)

This is one of the buildings owned by big conglomerates here and some of which have created various other big companies in the country. This building is easily 25 floors. It's very tall.

#### Me and My Family

![IMG_0197.jpg](https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipfs/QmV7EBY7w14HH75Abp2rf9qudPT6g6TnSVrNk5ycb1zcpc)
This is my wife and daughter. We are sitting on the bus here, 45 minutes into the tour. My daughter had so much fun munching on the earphones and looking around, too. lol.

So with that, I will say that is it for this post and I hope you enjoyed this bit of tour I took you on now.

Until later my friends. Stay tuned for the next tour which we took to Soweto, it's gonna be a very interesting one that.
