This new AI appears to be based off visual recognition technology. It can identify the actors and actresses in the video, and their positions within a scene. This is something previously humans had to do manually by watching porn and tagging it and this process likely had a fairly high error rare unless a lot of humans watch and tag it. This AI removes the necessity of humans to watch porn in order to organize and categorize porn.  At the same time I have the feeling this sort of technology could be used dual purpose for automated censorship mechanisms in the future:

> To limit the margin of error, the adult website is asking users to validate whether the tags and labels provided by AI model are indeed correct. To do so, users can either upvote or downvote the accompanying descriptions, depending on their accuracy. This is how the algorithm gets smarter.

In other words Pornhub is using both AI as well as what is known as collaborative filtering. The collaborative filtering is done by the users who provide value to Pornhub in an additional way by increasing the accuracy of the AI. The real question is how exactly is Pornhub going to monetize the attention of the user for it's real product which is "eyeballs" and is the model of Pornhub really an ideal business model long term? This is not to even debate what the social, political or moral consequences may be to any of this.

In addition to the censorship mechanism this could also expose people who may have done or be doing porn wearing masks to attempt to hide their identity. AI may be able to become smart enough to identify who you are no matter what precautions you take due to the geometry of your face and your body etc. This may only be the very beginning of what AI can do with regard to porn and access to the porn viewing habits of millions of people.
