 ** Side grafting of cocoa plants is a technique of connecting the top rods (entres) obtained from superior parent plants to rootstocks of low-productivity cocoa plants. Side grafting is done to increase the amount of cocoa fruit production from the previously very fruitful crops. By side grafting we can improve cacao garden productivity without having to do dismantling and replanting to existing plants. To do the side grafting of cocoa plants, there are several steps that must be done is the preparation of tools and materials, the implementation of side grafting techniques, and post-side grafting treatment. ***  ** Before doing side grafting, the rootstock needs to be trimmed and fertilized. Pruning is done so that photosynthesis of plants can be utilized optimally for the growth of the connection. After the rootstock is trimmed and fertilized, the next step done in side grafting technique is the preparation of the top stem (entres). Entres are obtained from branches of cacao plants that have high productivity and resistance to strong pests and diseases.
