I bought these matches at the 99 Cent Only Store. I wasn't too sure of what to write about, then I looked at these boxes of matches. Yes, I think I will write about matches this night.

Can you imagine how hard it was to create fire, before the matches and the cigarette lighter was invented? I mean did they rub two sticks together?

I seen videos where people try to do it that way. Sometimes it works and most times I seen where it didn't work. Maybe some people would carry a piece of flint stone to make a fire.

Where I am I wouldn't know any natural places where I can find a flint stone. I think I remember a book where a man had a hollowed animal horn with straps to put around his neck. He would put a burning piece of coal in the horn and carry it to his next location.

Well that is one way to transport fire.

In our modern times if we didn't have any matches or cigarette lighter there is still a way to light a fire. I like to keep a lot of magnifying glasses in my house. Not to start fires, but to read the fine print. I remember in my younger years of reading a Bible with very small print.

Well, I still have that Bible, but I have a very hard time reading it now days. Well I used to read it in my twenties and now I am 60 years old. My eyes are not as good as they used to be. Now days I use a Bible with large print.

Well, anyway a magnifying glass would be another way to create a fire. It would be much faster than rubbing sticks together. Of course you can only do it with a clear sun, so cloudy days and night time would be a time when it wouldn't work.

I did see on Youtube where a person took a clear plastic bag and put water in it. Then he held it in a certain way to the sun, like a magnifying glass and it did start a fire.

Another way to start a fire is if you have an old satellite dish. My mom had one on the ground in her backyard when she moved in. I went and took it since to her it was just garbage.

Well I seen people use those satellite dishes and put aluminum foil into the curved part of the dish and angle it a certain way with the sun to cook food with. I seen people do that as an alternate way to cook food.

Well, if you can cook food that way, you can also make a fire that way too. Just make sure your hand doesn't get in the way of its beam. Those things can be even more powerful than a magnifying glass.

I did light a fire this night and I used one of the matches from this pack. Matches are a convenient way of making a fire really fast and I am glad for them.
