 A few blogs ago I wrote, A Blog Of The Missing Garbage Cans. In it I explained that the garbage truck would pick up my garbage cans and throw not only the garbage into the truck, but the whole garbage can also.

They did that on three different occasions. Well, the thing was that I have a certain grandfathered program of only having a 20 gallon garbage can. I have the low volume discount because of that.

Well, it was a program that the old garbage company offered. You see, the old garbage company was bought out by the new garbage company. Well this new garbage company does not offer this low volume 20 gallon garbage can deal.

I did call the company at different times, but the promise to call back from the higher ups never called me back. On my last call the girl offered me the lowest volume that they can offer. 

That is a 32 gallon pick up and that would cost me 20 dollars more than what I am paying right now per billing period. If I took that deal then I loose my 20 gallon low volume discount and probably won't get to go back to it.

So I was going to use a 65 gallon garbage can that I got from a Craigslist free ad. The thing was is that I brought out my 65 gallon garbage can from the back. I used that garbage can to harvest rainwater runoff from my detached garage.

I figured that the garbage company truck can just pick up this can and let it down too.

Well, my neighbor had his garbage can out close to my house so I put the garbage can I got from Craigslist free ads next to his garbage can to see if there is a difference. I did notice a difference that might cause some trouble for the garbage truck.

Notice that there is no little metal bar that the garbage truck will grab the garbage can with? Well, then I thought I would see if I could by a used garbage can with that little metal bar in it in Craigslist. I couldn't find any at all.

So I checked the internet to see if I could buy a garbage can like that with the metal bar. I did find one that sells at Home Depot. The cost was $59.98 plus tax. That is pretty good as in another store of the same name it was over 20 dollars more.

So yesterday I did buy the garbage can that is in the first picture of this blog. It has that little bar, so the garbage truck will have no problem picking it up and letting it down again.

Also since I bought my own garbage can, I won't have to change anything with my billing. I will still get my low volume discount and to be fair to the company I will only throw away 20 gallons or less of garbage each week.

So now the garbage truck driver will be happy that I have a standard garbage can that the truck will be able to pick up and let down. Also in the billing department I will still be listed as a 20 gallon low volume customer.

If I would have gotten the free use of their 32 gallon garbage can then they would take away my grandfathered low volume discount. So this is why I wanted to buy my own garbage can that would work with the automated garbage truck.

So I figured that by staying on the low volume discount billing I would have paid for this garbage can after a little more than three billing periods.
