If you do not know, I am a marketing officer in an insurance firm. My job is to push sales to the insurance agents, introduce product, feed them with knowledge so they are equipped and able to bring back more sales ot the company. I do not take commission, naturally I spend more time in learning idea of indemnity. Which means, to restore a loss to it's original status before an accident took place.

What confused people is the idea of ACCIDENT. Most of the time when I hear from my agents or even clients, they always talk about how expensive an insurance policy, and they never really measure how much are they insuring on their own perils. Like my computer for example.

I bought a new hard drive, because the old hard drive was acting up, become very slow, and oftenly when I was using it to upload my gameplay, suddenly it shut down the hard drive, and any unsaved progress will be gone and I'll have to redo everything. Since a new hard drive needed a new operating system, I was literally too lazy, so I sent the computer to the shop and ask them get it installed. I don't mind pay a little.

Now, I didn't know after I walked out of the mall, something had happened which I have absolutely no idea. I was waiting for the technican to give me a call and update progress, and nobody call me back. By the time I tried to call back, nobody pickup my call.

Then, came Tuesday I went back to work as usual, and after working hour immeidately I drive straight to the Tesco and wanted to pickup my computer. I was very disappointed because the technican didn't call me back. As soon as I reached TESCO, 3 our of 4 floor of their public car park was shut down. There's no way to access the top floor or the lower ground car park. After going around the mall compound several times, finally I managed to get a parking place and proceed to enter the mall.

The first thing I noticed is, the mall only operate at half of their capacity. Even half the mall are dimmer with no lights. And I can smell burnt in the atmosphere. I reached to the computer shop, and the computer is on the floor. The technician update me, after I left the premises, the mall caught on fire. One of the upper floor burnt down and the entire mall has to evacuate. They didn't have enough time to reformat the whole thing and they advise me to bring it back since they have other things to manage.

I'm just glad there's no damage to my computer, because I didn't buy insurance on the computer. Dude, it's a 2007 unit, nobody will take my insurance. Even if they do, in the event of claim, they will question me to insurance a badly depreciated computer.

My point is, accidents happens when we least expecting it. For a moment I was there sending the computer for repair, and the next moment the mall caught on fire. Insurance is never an investment, it's only a protection for the victim and or the family.

1. Comparing the old Samsung 1.5TB hard drive from 2010 with a 480GB WD SSD.
2. Breakfast at the office cafeteria with rice noodle and a fried egg.
3. Lunch is also settled at the office cafeteria.
4. Dinner, was a bag of spicy drummet from Dominos.
