## The Joy Of The Lovely Of It All ~ Part XI ~ The Aftermath: In Town -- Close Up and (Somewhat) Personal ##
Yes, believe it or not, I am STILL discussing snowfall. After all, it IS still snowing SOMEWHERE in the world. Plus, I've got more photos left in my camera. So, we'll continue on, like a big old four wheeler with a honkin' plow stuck to the front, barreling on through the final dregs of snow still left on the roadways of life. Which is apropos, as some of this post has to do with snow on the roads. Yes, sometimes you have to search out that bright spot in the darkening cloud on the horizon of posting, even if it IS due to the reflection of interest and light from a flat-white surface. Be it snow, or electronic paper. (Whatever DOES that mean?!) So, read on and peruse, my Steemit faithful, of the SnOwregon extravaganza. For as we've stated previously:

#### For Every Action There Is An Equal and Opposite RE-Action -- Now Revisited In Close-Up Perspective ####
So, once more, WITH further ado:

### The Literal Club Is Now In Session ###
I got a good chuckle out of this sign when I first got out of the car at the plastics place. (Making new grommet Patch-It's for my tarps, that the snow blew out during the beginning days of SnOwregon 2019.) My first thought, "*where ELSE would the snow come from. Duh-yuuh!* " Then a chunk slid off the roof and *kaa-whoompfff'd* into the parking lot from above. Oh, THAT'S what the sign means!

I appreciated the 'heads up', if not a bit in retrospect. I can't imagine getting hit on the head by a big wharfle of snow from 20 feet up, let alone a 20 story building. That could get serious. Luckily, all our buildings here are short. It's more of a messy inconvenience down the collar, than a true, life-threatening threat.

### How Deep IS That Puddle? ###
Someone once asked Abraham Lincoln, "*how long should a persons legs be?* " To which he replied, "*long enough to reach the ground.*" Which kind of reminds me of the dilemma of a puddle. You never know how deep it is, until you actually get into it. Which is exactly why they recommend NOT driving through them, in flooded conditions. There may not be a road left, and no bottom to your trip. But in this case, things turned out OK. The snow was melting fast, and collecting everywhere, doing it's best *Water Cycle Part II* thing. I drove through this puddle, and I'm still here to tell about it. Yes, yes, I know...a bold move. Sometimes you just have to step out and live on the edge, every now and then.

### Whatever You Do, Don't Eat The Black Snow ###
This block-y stuff was everywhere after being plowed. Snow always looks so gorgeous when it first falls, then turns to black mush shortly thereafter. I guess it only goes to show how dirty our streets are. I call this the yin and yang of snowfall. White beauty becomes black gӧӧck thereafter. And it's even stark black and white. (I tried to make a little yin/yang emoji here. It didn't work. Anyone savvy on these things?)

I remember as a kid, I LOVED to run around after a big snowfall, kicking those huge, black chunks of old snow off the cars with my special red galoshes. Those of you in snow country know what I'm talking about. Those sooty-black snow glaciers that accumulate on the underside of the car, right behind each wheel. They were often curved, where the spinning tire wore them down in a semi circle. Like an inverted shark fin. You'd just give them a good, swift kick, and off they'd plop to the street below. It was SO satisfying. Then I'd jump up and down on the block to smash it into smithereens. Not sure WHAT that was about. I suppose we all have our very own, simple pleasures of life.

### Mount Messy At The Local Mall ###
A LARGER pile of black snow, at the shopping mall. These things ended up in every parking lot throughout town. Some were ENORMOUS. Way taller than the Subaru. I'm amazed at how dirty all the shopping lots are too. You'd think this was coal country. These mall mountain ranges stayed around for a LONG time after the original snow was gone. I should have thought ahead, and kept some of this in the freezer for a sneaky snowball ambush on my friends in July. Oh well, hind sight is SO often 20-40. I'm sure my friends are all glad for that off-kilter hindsight as well.

### The Lady Bug Kids ###
You ever want to attract a kid to an area? Or more than one kid? Make a huge pile of snow. Biking past the mall, I noticed these young explorers messing around on a huge plow-pile. This became a common occurrence, after the original snows had melted. Kids popped up everywhere, playing on these enormous mounds of snow. Reminded me of lady bugs. Ever have one land on your finger? They ALWAYS go 'up'. Kids are like that too. Always climbing to the top of the pile. I think there is a **Schteinn Science Report** in the making here. Stay tuned, sports fans.

### Dang! ###
Another flimsy structure bites the dust. We discussed this waaaayyy back in the early infancy of SnOwregon 2019. In post installment number one or two. The crushed temporary shelter. I saw quite a few of these while traveling across town. There's probably a vehicle under there somewhere. Hard on the old car. THAT'S why you're supposed to stay up all night long for days on end, people. Shoveling the snow from your structure, to keep this from happening. I should teach a course at the local community college. *Late Night Snow Removal-101*. I'm certain I would become quite well known.

### Who's Great Idea Was THIS?! ###
Dilbob the cat, expressing his certain displeasure over the lack of good walking space in the yard. A large issue both during and after the big storm. All the cats used the few cleared kitty pathways around the yard. Most of the walkways were made by yours truly, as I had a hard time trudging through the 14 inches of snow too. And my stomach is more than 6 inches off the ground. What a pain that would be. And it showed. I don't think any other animal on this green earth does disdain quite like a cat. Dilbob has the look down pat.

### The Urban Bird -or- A Taggle of Turkeys On The Move ###
What IS the official name for a group of turkeys? Geese bunch up in a gaggle, and these birds are big, like a goose. So it I'm going with a Turkey Gaggle, or *Taggle*. Whatever the true official name might be, these huge birds wandered about my neighborhood for some time after the storm. They don't do disdain quite like a cat, but still looked a bit flummoxed by all this snowy folderol. They picked and pecked around in the grass and snow, probably looking for seeds or bugs, or whatever else a turkey likes to eat. Luckily for these gals (and one guy), they'll never get fat by November, getting all this exercise and eating with such pickiness. I guess every dark snow-cloud has a silver lining after all.

### Brings A Tear To Your Eye ###
One of the many perks of heavy snowfall, beyond incredible beauty and late-night photography? Getting creative in the front yard. And the downside of this artistic endeavor? And resulting aftermath? All your lovely, artsy moments turn to sad, disappearing monuments to creative genius. This lumpy giant is having a bad day. I guess 40 degree weather will do that to you. Last time I drove by, he was long gone. Nothing to show for his existence but a fond, passing memory, and a patch of well-watered grass. I'm sure the artist is crestfallen, and no doubt waiting for the next big blow of snow.

### "You Shall Not Pass!!" ###
###### -or- ######
### "Dude, You Just Hit My Mom With A Snowball!" ###
Another problem with this heavy snow business? Couple it with that incredibly creative genius we just discussed above, and you get sidewalks completely blocked for weeks and weeks as the snow melts. This was a particularly large (and downright awesome) fort. Built strategically on the intersection of two roads, right smack-dab on the corner. Situated 'just right' from a professional, castle-builder-of-old's view. And no doubt where the placement specialist would have put it. Incredible view and full defensive access in ALL directions. A real plus for the lookouts, scanning 360°for marauding bands. Or pesky mothers, calling you in for lunch. They're obviously teaching kids a lot in school these days.

 ### "*Doot-de-doot-dee-dooo, KLONK!*" ###
Talk about a road hazard! I bike this lane late at night in the dark. Can't imagine hitting this enormous iceberg on a bike while pedaling along at 16 mph. I managed to miss it, but these things would put a definite damper on your evening. This berg stayed around for a LONG time. And there were many of these strewn all along the path. Probably left over from the city park shoveling gang. Thanks Be for a decent, rechargeable headlight. And reflexes like a cat. (But very little disdain on my part.)

### My Laundry Line During The Storm. Sans Laundry ###
Though I've tried, it doesn't work well to hang your laundry 'out' during this type of weather. Just gets really stiff, and never gets completely dry. But it DOES make for cool photos. (The snow, not my hanging fineries). Let me state with grand purpose though, there is a MONDO downside to this sort of excessive, gorgeous accumulation of snow on the lines...

### An Improved Tilt Toward The Sun's Rays? ###
My laundry line, after everything melted away. It's now a bit wonky, but still seems to work. Though I'm pretty sure I lost about 28% of original H.L.S.A.* in THE AFTERMATH. Bummer man.
 *( *Hang Line Surface Area*)

I'll pull out my handyman fix-it box, and try to set it right. But this sad thing may end up as spare tent poles or aluminum tubing for some other project around the farm. (I've '*been going to*' put up a new, longer line system for some time now. Though I'm not sure if 3 or 4 years classifies as a 'long time'. This may be a perfect jumping off point for this project. Do not hold your breath...unless you LIKE holding your breath). I DO I love the snow, but it's darn hard on the laundry day dynamics and other household efficiencies.

Well, that's about it for some more **SnOwregon 2019 ~ THE AFTERMATH**. I hope you've enjoyed this look at things that go awry during and after a large snow event. Stay tuned, believe it or not, there may be more ( :

Awesome. Your laundrey line now looks high-tech. You can claim it is a telescope to measure gravitational waves. I remember growing up in Winnipeg and loving those snow banks and all those fantastic shapes it would take on as they melted. Perfect for make believe.

Got a giggle out of that sign too. Just be grateful it wasn't falling icicles. They do the work of Darwin every year.

And I googled. A flock of turkeys is called a rafter. How do you like that?

Ha haa, my high tech laundry science project. Now that you mention it, it DOES look like some sort of antennae for picking up SOMETHING from space. Or somewhere. I have heard of people being Darwin'd by ice in the big city. Yowza, that would hurt. Maybe only for a short time. NYC must be really bad. When I was there, it was just streets and tall buildings. NO room to run away.

Wow, there is a real name for a gaggle of turkeys. Where in the world, I wonder, did a 'rafter' come from? Gotta love it. But I guess if a bunch of crows is a murder, anything is game. Who makes these things up?

I would imagine Winnipeg had some HUUUUGGGEEE drifts or plow piles. Now that's real snow...

Good article! Oh! I can’t believe that you still have many photos of the Snowy Wonderland and have very long (not short) discussion. Although you said that they are on “Wane-Side”, I still love snow and enjoyed seeing the snow through your photos.

My favorite photos are: the cat with snow (really cute), the turkeys with snow, and the last two photos – really cool white snow, and bright blue sky….

Good words, “the yin and yang of snowfall”, “the lady bug kids”, etc.
If I am a kid, I would love to climb to the top of the huge pile of snow, too. Ha ha! :D

Good capture and great stories! Well done! ;)

Ha haa, yes, more photos of snow. With MORE TO COME. Yikes, they all said. ( : I'm glad you are still enjoying them. I do think you would like to climb on the piles. We used to do it as kids all the time. Though we never really grow up, so there is a good chance we would see you on one today. If you ever got snow there. I will tell the cat Dilbob you enjoyed his/her photo. (She is a girl, but named with a boys name. We named 'it' before we could turn her over to look. That's not wise with a wild cat. So, the name stuck. Reminds us of a Dilbob anyway, so it works. But I will pass along your thoughts no matter how this all shakes out.
Thanks for stopping in, and glad you are enjoying the last days of SnOwregon 2019. I better finish this up soon, at this rate, it will start snowing again before I'm done O :
Cheers, my friend, and have a nice night.

Ha that WAS a good sign. At first I thought they were being snarky, but no, they were simply stating the obvious lol.

Oh looks like some snow weary turkeys to me!

Yes it does look like Frosty is out to show us just how fleeting life can be!

Oh no 3 or 4 years simply just means you will get around to it...soon as you make space in your schedule! Dont tell me, I live it every day! LOL!

@dswigle ·
Oh!!! That sign was hilarious and was probably constructed after the first Kar-umph! Betcha! That would be funny only after it happened... like weeks after when there was no snow to look at.

What a dangerous little piece of sidewalk that would be. No kidding! Here is gets a little bit of black ice, just to make it fun when you are biking or even driving. Yikes. I have slid down many a European danger zone with black ice following me down.

The fun days! Oh, where are they when you need them?

Oh, if looks could kill, that cat would eat you for dinner. And those turkeys? How hilarious, moseying around the hood, checking you all out. I say we make like it is Thanksgiving and grab one. It is a *rafter* of turkeys, in case you were wondering. My brother raises them. The domestic, not the wild. In case you were wondering. LOL He has to eat a lot of the Toms as they get pretty cranky and downright dangerous to have around. Oh, they chase him across the yard.

Well, me dear, as always, you are a hoot and holler and I am glad I made my way over here as you always make me smile! So have a great day and keep on steemin! You know you want to!

Upped and Steemed

Thanks, I must remember that for future turkey reference. A rafter. Wonder where that came from. Probably named by Farmer Fred years back, when they kept roosting in his barn or shed rafters. "Look Ma, it's a whole RAFTER full of gobblers". And it stuck, because Ma no doubt worked for Mr. Webster and his dictionary, so very many years back.
I have heard those big boys do get a bit cranky, as you say. When I photo them, they fan out their tails and move toward me making an odd sound sometimes. Imagine they could about bust your arm with that big old wing. Or peck out an unsuspecting eyeball. I'd eat them too ( :

So glad you stopped in to chat. I so enjoy our little written forays. SOME day I would love to buy a microphone and get in on an OGP DSW chat on here. They really crack me up. Oh, the dreams of life, they come large, fast and furious. And fun. Though I would probably put Mr. Chicken on my screen, as that is who I truly am. Chortle chortle, DD the large, stuffed chicken.
Well, I hope this finds you enjoying nice, warm weather, and having fun out East. I so love your fair city, but it's been awhile. I used to go there more when my buddy had meetings there, but now, I don't go as much. I used to stay at the Americana motel. Do you know it? A cheap little place, but I could pedal from there on my folding bike and spend days at the Smithsonian. I got lost in that wonderworld many a day. There are many new places to visit I've read about. So one day I hope to return. Preferably in the flowery spring.
Well, I've waxed on poetic or in some direction about past fun long enough. You are probably staring up at the backs of your eyelids about now.
Have a nice day, and thanks for the nice tip. You are the cats meow. Take it easy in Steemitville.

Oh that would be awesome! I know I would have a great time. We might have to twist @dswigle's are, but I have done it before! If you use a laptop, you might be able to get by with that.

OMG! Never! I never tire of the banter and poetic waxing of things. While you are at it, could you throw a little wax on the floor, I have been so lazy and have skipped it for a while - and you do wax so nicely!

Oh, wouldn't that be a hoot and holler? Seriously!! There would be nonstop laghter to the rafters (not turkeys, mind you) on there. And you know that OGP @old-guy-photos is always waiting for an opportunity to show off his video skills. Oh, he has gotten so much better with all the time he spends on there.

Oh, Ma Webster you say? Hehe... Well, that makes sense. I was wondering how a turkey could be a rafter. I mean, a bunch maybe? A herd? A plethora of them... but, rafters? I think your explanation is truly brilliant.

Are you talking about the Americana in Crystal City (probably actually Arlington, but the Crystal City area) Right across the river from the city. A hop skip and a bike. I know where that is and it's been renovated nicely and if there is one right downtown, I am not familiar with it, but, there are a lot that I don't know. I love it there and all there is to offer. Any time.

I will let my brother know that he can continue feasting on his gobblers. LOL I laughed the first time he had one for dinner because it attacked him. Oh, who got the last laugh there?

OMG...

I hope you have a great day DD @ddschteinn! You are one in a million! xoxo

Sometimes you just have to step out and make those big moves. Even in the middle of the city on cement ( :
Ha haa, I've seen some of those pretty deep potholes, real car swallowers. OK, maybe a bit of an exaggeration.. but at least very hard on the undercarriage. Thanks for stopping in, so glad to see you back out and about on Steemit. Cheers
