ColorChallenge - Monday Red - It's Apple Season! - Photography

<p>After a long summer of smoky and hazy air, we're finally seeing a few days of rain-scoured bright sunshine. What a relief!</p>
<p>It's also getting close to fall harvest time, and yesterday afternoon I noticed the brilliant red fruit on one of our apple strees-- they were quite literally glowing-- so I snapped some pictured and thought I'd make this my official entry for the "<em>Monday Red</em>" theme&nbsp;in <a href="https://steemit.com/@kalemandra"><strong>@kalemandra</strong></a>'s ongoing photography <a href="https://steemit.com/trending/colorchallenge"><strong>#colorchallenge</strong></a><strong>.</strong>&nbsp;</p>

<p>We have several apple trees on the property. Although these red ones are beautiful to look at, they are actually best suited for apple pies and apple butter... not so good as eating apples, as they tend to go very quickly from crisp to somewhat mealy.</p>

<p>It's not a particularly large tree, but it can bear a lot of fruit. It seems to cycle on alternate years... this year is one of the "on" years; last year the entire tree only bore enough fruit for a couple of apple pies. But this year, we probably have 80-100lbs of apples.</p>
<p>In the best season we've had since moving to this house-- four years ago-- we had a little over 240lbs (110kg) of apples from this tree alone!</p>
<p>Although we're not "professional homesteaders" by any figment of the imagination, we do enjoy growing-- and preserving-- quite a bit of our own food. Our apple trees tend to be our most bountiful source of home grown food.</p>
<p>This year has been hard on many of our trees and other plants, as it has been relentlessly sunny and often quite warm... not something we are used to seeing, here in the "rainy Pacific Northwest." We've watered the apple trees several times with a soaker hose to help produce some good fruit.</p>

Dear @moviemeter, I really would like to think you mean well, but copying what is essentially the same comment to post after post is going to be seen as SPAM by a lot of people... and is likely to get you flagged.

I'd suggest you put some of your effort into actually *reading* people's posts and commenting appropriately... in which case they might actually *check out* your page, rather than ignore you. Yes, I realize that is "more work," but that's ultimately how Steemit works.

I love apple season. Your tree gave you a lot of apples this year! That nice red skin is my favorite part. I grew up with a green apple tree in our yard but termites sadly killed it off years ago. It's nice when you can just walk out in your yard when you are hungry and find a snack growing nearby.

That's one of my favorite things too, @marxrab... especially on those cold fall mornings where the apple is cold, crisp and slightly tart. We have one tree that gives nice pinkish eating apples, and two that give the reds. It IS really nice to pick a snack right from the tree!
