Loved every word of this post.  We don't always agree on how to get there, but we totally agree on the "Garden".

When I first joined steemit a year ago, I really didn't understand it or know what to expect. I knew you could create content and get paid. I thought I could just through up some content and make a little money.  I never thought I would be so captivated by some of the posts, some of the people and their knowledge, and the fascination I now have with this community. I plan on being here for the long haul because I keep learning everyday!

I like the sound of that @denmarkguy and the garden analogy is pretty good too. A lot of people like to visit gardens and see the beautiful landscaping in the hour or two that they may visit but haven't got a clue as to the hundreds or thousands of hours that went into producing that 2 weeks of beautiful blooms.

I'd like to think I can be commenting on your posts 10 years from now.

Long term is relative.  I'll give it what I can.  I don't know if I have ten years.  I believe in the life changing power of Steemit.

It would be great if everyone thought the same as you and actually considered the effects on the platform by their actions. Life would be so much easier and more pleasant!

Exactly.  I'm really getting turned off by all these people on here spamming, trolling, or posting non orginal content.  It has to stop or be halted big time.

I've always been like that.  I like to plant roots. I try to do my part and curate and "tend the garden." We have to build one anther up.  

I like your correlation on the garden.  I'm here forever.  I love Steemit.  The communities, the cool people, genuine people. There are good Steemians out there and I aim to cultivate the community garden ♡

Uh oh, if steemit is like a garden then I'm in for some trouble! I always work really hard at the beginning of the summer and then as the summer wears on, I put in less and less effort. By the time I go back to work in the fall, I've given up completely! I easily get frustrated when plants fail, as they have often. Hmm...maybe steemit is like a garden. That does sound like my life cycle on here so far! I'm going to have to work hard not to throw in the towel for this garden! I'd like to reap the fruits of my labor someday! Great thoughts :-)

I would say that I am planning to be here *permanently.*

I hope the promise of blockchain permanence is real. I hope that what I write today will still be accessible to my heirs not just ten, but 100 years or more from now.

I'd like to point out a great article that I think you'll like, because it goes to the issue of "pulling the weeds" here on Steemit.

I have often found @mattclarke's observations to be very insightful, and I hope you'll read his article and give it some thought:

I think if his idea were to be implemented, as it could very simply be, you and I would both be happy to have *more readers,* and perhaps less *low quality writers* in the content creation realm.

Steemit is like garden.. yes that is right. But recently many "plant disease" in steemit community, many scammers, many people make accounts on steemit. If we make 2 - 3 account, that is okay, but making  more one thousand accounts, that is a question. NIce :)

I don't suppose that you have read Neil Stephen's [The Diamond Age](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Diamond_Age) in which he discusses Phyles?

* Society in The Diamond Age is dominated by a number of phyles, also sometimes called tribes. Phyles are groups of people often distinguished by shared values, similar ethnic heritage, a common religion, or other cultural similarities. In the extremely globalized future depicted in the novel, these cultural divisions have largely supplanted the system of nation-states that divides the world today. Cities in The Diamond Age appear divided into sovereign enclaves affiliated or belonging to different phyles within a single metropolis. Most phyles depicted in the novel have a global scope of sovereignty, and maintain segregated enclaves in or near many cities throughout the world.

It's more involved that that. Some of the Plyles are not restricted to any given geographical area. They are widely distributed and keep in touch via electronic means.

Yes I'm on on Steemit for the long haul. My other life takes up a lot of space right now. Single mom raising a teenage son and running a busies that just pays the bills. My time on steemit is a luxury and and investment. I so enjoy the original content .

Long term and agree it takes work to keep it fresh and vibrant.

I always liked the friendly atmosphere on the Steemit. The fact that there are a lot of spam and low-level content now is, unfortunately, a natural stage. While the participants were few, it was like a closed club with certain rules, which were respected by all. Now there are too many participants and not all of them have already understood the rules. I hope that this will pass.

I was on many networks and regularly after a couple of months would always be a disappointment. As soon as I came to Steemit I felt that it was a hit. There are drawbacks, of course, but still, hold me the initial enthusiasm...

The current platform is indeed not a Facebook killer. I do hope though that Steemit will evolve and become so much more than the current blogging platform. I think we need to accomodate the interests of a broader audience if we wish to become mainstream. Maybe chat based communication would be an option? Or maybe we should develop more different platforms to reach various audiences.

It does NOT mean spam, spun content and plagiarized garbage. - I couldn't agree more. I'm reading you since I joined steemit, and every your post really values to me, inspires and gives answers to questions about the platform I sometimes have in my head.
At the moment we gained damn a lot users who really are in a rush, but what is worse  - I see a lot of garbage. Everyone does. It's been a long time since I last visited "new" folder, cause I already fear. I know that before I find something interesting I'll have to wade through tones of plagiarized content. 
But yes, I'm here to stay, stay for a long term. And the more far it goes, the more calm I'm about it.

I'm here for the duration. I read a post the other day that struck a chord. **"What if you looked at steemit as your pension"**

We can build it. We have the know how and the content.
Eventually (next year) everyone out on the web is going to wake up to find the 'free' web is gone and they will have to pay to see the content controlled by googly.

I plan to be here for the long haul, too. Although I seem to have gaps every now and again, from a couple weeks to a couple months. I think too much about my content and how it all fits together. I think I need to loosen up and stretch my blogging horizons -- like trying new plants in my garden!  ; )

After taking a 7 month vacation from Steemit, I've returned with so much more enthusiasm ~ And it only gets stronger. 

Ten years for me is like an eternity but in all probability, I'll still be here too. 

I love all the creative 'challenges' that are blossoming at the moment too ~ Where anyone with any sort of initiative can start their own challenge/contest ~ And in my case, a gallery. 

I've found that by contributing my own work and then looking at, evaluating, responding and sharing the work of others, some wonderful friendships are forming. Somehow there's just a different 'energy' here than on any of the other social media platforms.

I want to be here for the long haul. That's why all my earnings are going into SP, to spread the love and community. I would love to have steemit be a positive budget line one day for our homestead earnings. For now I'm thankful for an outlet that doesn't cost me anything and lets me reward other even if it's just with 0.02 at the moment. 
Much like you, I'm not interested in followers. I would much rather have 10-20 dedicated readers than 500 followers. The only way to get there is by publishing quality posts and nurturing a sense of community.
I'm glad I caught this post with just enough time left to literally add my 2 cents.
