China Light Festival in Cologne - Travel with Detlev

# A different light show
Since 8 December 2018, there is the second edition of the China Light Festival at the Cologne Zoo

The great light spectacle runs everyday from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m and comes with numerous light installations on display, which extend along the entire Zoo Circuit.

**_We've been there with the whole family at the End of December during school holidays. At this trip we took a lot of pictures of this beautiful installation. As I finally did more than 100 pictures and some more videos, I will split this story into a few posts._**

# The Dragon is 40m long

There are 46 ensembles of illuminated figures made of steel wire and nylon fabric spread over the site. Crocodiles, hippos and giraffes stand along the path, a giant jellyfish piles up and a 40-metre-long dragon winds its way through it. Stay tuned for all that pictures.

I had a look to the website of the Zoo and did this translation for you

> The China Light Festival will make Cologne Zoo and the animal world shine in the glow of lights. For six weeks, 1000 luminous animal and fantasy figures illuminate the zoo in Asian style.

They say as well:

> Visitors can look forward to an exciting light tour that is adapted to the surrounding animal enclosures. The march through the six-metre-high and twelve-metre-wide so-called "greeting gate" begins. This is followed, among other things, by an impressively illuminated terracotta army, moving wash rams, a four-metre-high double-headed turtle and an impressive, three-metre-high bear.

# Dinosaurs are on their way

Oversized swans are reflected in the zoo ponds, giant pandas shine in the darkness and fish dive through the above-ground underwater world. Illuminated giant gorillas will meet you on the tour through the zoo. It will be primeval with a dangerous looking Tyrannosaurus Rex.

> The festival's eye-catcher is the 40 metre long and six metre high illuminated dragon in a bright blue colour. The festival planners have also thought of sports enthusiasts: the two-and-a-half metre replica of FC mascot "Hennes VIII" - made especially for the Cologne Zoo - will be watching in front of the Zoo-Geißbockheim.

> In addition to the walk through the world of lights, visitors can also look forward to the supporting programme. For example, Chinese artisans will be showing Far Eastern dexterity live in front of the visitors. Chinese musicians and artists present their show program on the stage at the Zoo restaurant. Zoogastronomy offers Asian snacks at various points along the course.
