IDF Soldiers near the Lion's Gate in the ancient city of Jerusalem - Original Work

Today I'm making this quick post because we have been a bit under the weather and I'm not sure if I will have time to put anything else up. I was going through one of our hard drives and I came across our photos from our trip to Israel last year. It was an amazing place to see and explore, and the old city of Jerusalem was absolutely one of our favorite places. You have to get used to seeing police and soldiers armed with automatic weapons everywhere in this country, but you would be surprised how quickly you start to not even notice them. This particular instance was literally the only time that one of the soldiers got a bit upset with me taking his photo. He asked very intensely if I was a tourist after I snapped the shot, and I dumbfoundedly answered, well, yeah, obviously, and he kept walking.

I was really surprised (and so were the other two soldiers with him) because I was taking photos of the IDF soldiers the whole time and most of them seemed to really like it actually. I got a lot of smiles, waves, peace signs from many of them. It didn't turn into anything (thank goodness) and we continued on our way out the Lion's Gate toward the mount of olives.

This photo was taken using a Nikon D3S camera and Nikkor 85mm f1.4 lens. Shutter speed was 1/160 at f1.4 and ISO 1600. The photo was edited in Adobe Lightroom 5 using a custom preset made by myself and tweaked for this specific shot.
