Today I will introduce you to a character called the Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly). The action takes place on the original Earth 616. Ben was the second and most successful clone of Peter Parker, after Kain. It all started when a villain named Jackal created Ben to counter Spider-Man. To test Reilly, Jackal kidnaps Peter and takes him to Shea Stadium. There Parker engages in battle with his clone. The heroes almost killed each other, but decided to join forces to save Gwen Stacy. Trying to help out his beloved, Ben, as it seemed to Peter, died. Fearing that Ben would reveal a secret about the identity of Spider-Man, Peter throws a clone into the smoke. However, Ben survived. He took the name of Benjamin Reilly. About 5 years Reilly spent away from New York, considering himself a useless clone, until he met his old friend Sjord. Syrd returned Ben's confidence and explained to him that despite the fact that Reilly is a clone, he is still an independent person. Sjrd helped Ben find a new job and get on his feet. Ben got a job as a technical assistant. Then he met Joan Glodbee, who at first did not want to communicate with the main character. However, Reilly found out that John’s real name is Elizabeth Tyne. It turned out that Elizabeth killed her father and ran away, changing her name. Ben managed to understand her, even revealed to her his secret about the cloning of Spider-Man. Reilly and Joana spent a whole year together.
When Ben learns about the poor condition of Tyot May, he immediately arrives in New York, where he again encounters Parker. Reilly wanted to explain the reason for his return. At first, Peter was wary of Ben, but later changed his mind and they became friends. Reilly decides to help Spider-Man in the fight against crime. Ben puts on his costume, which remotely resembles Peter's. The main difference is a sweater with a spider emblem.
Newspapers quickly called Reilly the Scarlet Spider. In this guise, Ben fought with Venom and many other villains. However, the cooperation did not last long. After some tests, Sjard Treyner found out that Raleigh was a real Parker, and Peter was just a clone. Peter was very shocked and decided to leave Ben.
Upon learning that Mary Jane is pregnant, Peter decides to stop being a hero for a while. He asks Reilly to be the new Spider-Man. Ben happily agrees. The main character creates a new costume, almost the same as that of Parker, only with a big spider on his chest. While Spider-Man (Ben Reilly) was a hero, Peter found out that Sjord Trainer was working for Norman Osbourne. It turned out that Ozborn had been behind the cloning of Spider-Man all this time. It also turned out that Norman, with the help of Sjord, that Peter is a clone. In fact, Peter is the original, and Reilly is a clone.
Later, there is a conflict between the Green Goblin and the Spiders, during which Ben saves Parker by covering him with his body from the glider Ozborn. Peter was holding Reilly's dying body in his hands, while saying:
"Rest in peace, brother!"
However, Ben survived. He realized that there could be only one Spiderman. Reilly faked his death and got a job working as a cleaner in a Portland school, hiding under the name of Henry Jones.
After Otto erased his mind from Peter, ceasing to be the Superior Spider-Man and the victory over the Green Goblin, Parker is faced with a new Jackal, who turned out to be Ben Reilly. After a little fight, Peter kills Ben. This time forever.
The abilities of the Scarlet Spider (Ben Reilly) are exactly the same as those of Peter.
