Poco seems to go ignored these days. Maybe it's because when the group was formed out of the ashes of Buffalo Springfield, it didn't include the two more famous members, Stephen Stills and Neil Young. Or maybe because members Randy Meisner and Timothy B. Schmitt left to join a bigger band, The Eagles. But Poco is responsible for some great country rock. This compilation of their early years has some great material. They were as great vocally as anyone, and Rusty Young is as fine a stell guitar player as you can find anywhere. The songs do get a bit cheesy, particularly when Young writes about his home state of Colorado, but this band was a huge part of the creation of country rock, and a lot of this is as good as it gets.

The band still plays, anchored these days by Young and Paul Cotton. Founding member Richie Furay is a minister in my old town of Broomfield, Colorado. Poco is still a favorite there, and this music still holds its own. An important, if forgotten, band.
