The landscape was much more desolate than I  imagined.  It was beautiful in it’s extremeness. There aren’t many creatures that can handle this kind of environment.  Subarus are the most well adapted of the bunch. It’s small, computerized brain is efficient at doing one thing well... distributing power to all four tires so as not to get stuck in sand traps, where the sand-worms dwell. 

Fear is the mind killer... but you already knew that. We took a wrong turn while looking for a small grocery store. The roads became less and less navigable. The night was black. No moon. 

Google said that the route would get us from point A to point B but, we soon realized that Google wasn’t applying an ounce of local knowledge.  

The road gave way into a wide pocket of washed out road filled with a desert sand as fine as baby powder.  Out headlights swished left and then right as the Subaru’s wheels fought to grip onto silt. The car settled, it’s headlights revealing an abandoned Acura.  

I half expected a trap from irradiated, feral humans. Thankfully the Subaru was able to handle the fine dirt and we swerved back onto the solid part of the road.  We had to double back the way we came, a little more paranoid and thankful for some Japanese engineers. 

It was a romantic weekend. ;)
