# The food truck industry is estimated to be worth more than $800 million dollars in the U.S. alone, with thousands of food trucks that can be found scattered in various states around the country.
<center> </center> The food truck trend has enticed many to not only grab a bite to eat from these mobile restaurants but it's also drawn many to give up a myriad of careers in order to follow their culinary dreams. 

Food trucks offer a much more cost-friendly option for someone who might want to share their catering and cooking skills with the world and [social media today can really help](https://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/07/10-most-popular-food-trucks-in-america-.html#slide=1) these different trucks to gain quite a dedicated following of consumers. 

# States with the highest prevalence of food trucks are regions like [California, New York, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Washington](https://www.forbes.com/pictures/57c4b5d04bbe6f6ef7490919/6-washington/#15a984e732f8). 
<center> </center> The rules surrounding food truck activity can be quite restrictive, determining how many trucks can be selling, where they can sell, and so on. And some food truck owners in [North Carolina are fighting back](http://www.wect.com/story/38924336/food-truck-operators-sue-town-of-carolina-beach-for-right-to-compete), for the freedom to sell from their food trucks. Specifically, in the region of Carolina Beach, food truck owners say that authorities have passed <b>unfair and unconstitutional ordinances</b> relating to their work.

## What did authorities do? 
They banned <b>food trucks</b> a few months ago, for anyone that has not previously owned a <b>brick-and-mortar</b> style restaurant in the town that they are working in, for more than a  year. 

So if you're interested in hiring someone who has a great food truck service in Carolina Beach, to cater to your specific event, they could ultimately be locked in a cage or they could lose their life, over this ordinance that says they are not allowed to serve willing consumers. 

With the new rules in place, that means that there are dozens of different food truck companies that will be prohibited from operating and that means that this ordinance is going to drastically reduce competition in the area.

The mayor of the region, Mr. Benson, [has suggested that the town](https://www.wwaytv3.com/2018/08/21/food-truck-operators-sue-carolina-beach-over-rules/) has yet to review the complaints relating to the changes. 

## For now, a lawsuit has been launched against the Carolina Beach town; food truck owners say that the new ordinance is [discriminatory against their own business](http://www.starnewsonline.com/news/20180821/food-truck-owners-suing-carolina-beach).
<center> </center> The people should be the ones who decide which businesses succeed or fail, by voting with their dollars to support it, the determination of success shouldn't be left up to the government to decide. 

Together, the owners of at least <b>3 different food trucks</b> have teamed up for this lawsuit, and they are arguing that these rules violate the <b>North Carolina constitution</b>.
