A 65 year old woman was heading to church on Monday when she was stopped and attacked by an individual in New York who allegedly yelled that she "didn't belong".
They are still busy searching for the suspect and many images have been shared across social media now with people trying to find out who he is so that justice can be served.

Bystander Effect
In the video you can see that there were other people nearby but that nobody stood in to help the victim. The situation has enraged many who are calling on those in communities in NY and elsewhere to stand up to injustice if they see something happening on the street.

Don't just walk by if you see an elderly individual, or any individual, being attacked and harassed. You might not feel like you can do something but you can start recording, you can call for help, you can try and find someone nearby who isn't afraid to intervene etc.

All of those options are available besides standing there and doing nothing.
In some regions we've seen anti-Asian hate crimes grow 700%+ or more.
Authorities in the NY region have condemned the attack and hopefully they will find the individual responsible so that he can get the mental help he so desperately seems to need. Or at least be punished for this action to try and prevent him from attacking anyone else similarly in the future.

There were some men in the building lobby who watched the scene unfold and attempted to do nothing to intervene from what it looks like, when a defenseless 65 year old woman was being beaten. If that were someone that they had personally known and valued, there's no doubt that they would have wanted a different response from bystanders.
