*As I said in [Sunday's post](https://steemit.com/photography/@dreemit/color-challenge-sunday-violet-also-included-artificial-intelligence-ai-and-blockchain-ben-goertzel-and-sophia-humanoid-hanson), I've decided to make this week's color challenge all about mushrooms, leading up to the promised in-depth post I mentioned in [Saturday's Indigo challenge](https://steemit.com/photography/@dreemit/color-challenge-saturday-indigo-blewit-mushroom)*.

The **Honey Mushroom** gets its name from its color (unfortunately it is not sweet, in fact it's quite bitter if eaten raw though it loses that bitterness when cooked) which can be yellowish, orange as you see here, or even brown.  

They are found growing on wood, even when you see them on the ground it's likely there is a log beneath the surface of the soil, and in clusters like this one.  

They do have a poisonous look alike, which is actually called the **Deadly Galerina**. Very important that you do your homework with these since they are very similar, the main difference being that they usually aren't clustered together, especially not this closely.

My husband thinks this one is the *Lactarius vinaceorufescens*, but as there are a number of toxic mushrooms similar to this he decided not to give it a try.

And finally the *Auricularia auricula-judae*, which is an edible mushroom but not used often because it has a rubbery texture and bland taste, once commonly known as **Judas's ear** from the belief that Judas Iscariot hung himself from an Elder Tree, and now more widely known as **Wood Ear** or **Jelly Ear**.
