 Most of the world thinks we walk in wooden shoes all day or ride bicycles, some of this is true and some of it is not. The wooden shoes are to us almost as old fashioned as they are to you - though i used to walk on them occasionally when i was a kid. Nowadays you can buy them mostly on flee markets.  We do like to bike, however. We even adapt our traffic signs to that π And! We bike in summer AND in winter:  We do not only export flowers and flowerbulbs all over the world, we like to buy them ourselves too. Regular Dutch household has a bouquet of flowers all through the week.   The Netherlands have beautiful nature, it differs if you are in the south, the north or the east. There are many natural parcs where the diversity in trees make a great sight in the fall  This spring i took a trip to the south.   The south of the Netherlands has beautiful hilly landscapes with lots of cornfields. In the east the nature gets really different.    I live in Gelderland, where the hay fields determine the landscape. It was untill here that the ice came in the former last ice age. It shoovled up the land. In the last ice age the ice did not come this far but it kept the upper layers frozen for a long time, creating this tundra-like landscape.  Here, between Gelderland and Utrecht, on ' the Hoge Veluwe ' - a national parc - there is a world famous museum were some of the most beautiful van Gogh paintings are exposed.   Our fields are dominated by black and white cows. The dutch cow is a friendly and curious animal.   Over to the west!  We are lucky! There is a seaside too! All the way from the north with its islands untill the south-west, the islands of Zeeland. This is the famous pier of Scheveningen, where the Kurhause hotel was build too.  So what more to tell.....cheese.....they made the Dutchies out of cheese    But we are really sweettooths too - there is a very dutch festival, two weeks before christmas. Its called Sinterklaas en we eat all kinds of ginger-bread like pastry.... very sweet!  And once a year, on the birthday of our king Alexander we get REALLY crazy. We dress up in a lot of orange colors and we go out to party in the streets. There is music everywhere, mostly from live bands.   And when we play an international football game we do exactly the same! We get totally crazy for such soccer games. Some friends of mine.took their bikes over and have been touring your country by bike and I have been quite envious. It seems to me that purchasing cut flowers is much less expensive for you than it is here in the States... I even bought flowers for my guestroom when I was visiting Europe. Here they feel more like a luxury. LOVE all your pictures.
