![My motorbike adventures in Thailand (48).jpg](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1516105542/tzdloqhz73fgodevhyp2.jpg) Going to the hospital can be a scary experience. You are surrounded by people who are also ill or injured and are looking for the best medical care possible. The last thing you want to imagine is an accident or additional injury related to your care while in the facility. Many times, over worked or inexperienced medical professionals have patient lives in their hands. We want to think that their training and education have provided them with enough knowledge and experience to perform all medical procedures accurately, but sometimes that is not the case. Until recently, medical safety concerns were kept within the medical community. Recently however, many of the medical organizations are releasing their safety data in an attempt to provide their staff with accountability as well shed light on the astonishing number of death rates and safety concerns within Hospitals across the United States. Since these finding have been released, death rates have decreased by eight percent while patient hospitalization has increased by eleven percent. In 2000, there were 776,000 deaths while in hospitals. The results from 2017 reflect the decline bringing the total down to 715,000 deaths for the year. While still significantly high, hospital death rates do appear to be decreasing now that hospital administrations are being more open to releasing this important information. It is critical that when a patient is being seen in a hospital that they have someone outside of the medical professionals who can look over their care and make sure their health is being properly taken care of. By holding medical professionals accountable, we can continue to significantly reduce these numbers and take better care all around. Sometimes only the placement of a decimal in disbursement of medication, or the failure to recognize a medication allergy are all it takes to take a life. ![X8GNClOztkA.jpg](https://res.cloudinary.com/hpiynhbhq/image/upload/v1516105622/qfn62fmlwwzqjy86ddm5.jpg)

Yeah, hospitals are a scary place all right. I've been in hospital myself a bit, and been to care for parents and such. I'm always glad to get out, and to get my parents home where they will be safer. It's not just the US where things go badly. Here in NZ doctors and nurses are so overworked that mistakes are inevitable. We have just had a change of government, so maybe now things will get better.

Thank you so much for the comment) I live in Ukraine right now and it is much more worse here. My mom got seriously ill a few months ago and I remember our terrible visit to the hospital. The atmosphere was gloomy there - so many ill people with sad faces and the doctor frightened us with terrible diagnoses, he even did not try to give a hope to my mom. We left his cabinet with tears in our eyes, my mom thought she would die soon. But time passed and my mom is recovering now. I think it is better not to visit doctors at all in Ukraine. I am sorry for my mistakes, English is not my native language.

I'm glad your mum is recovering. I nearly lost my mum when the doctors gave her the wrong medicine. He did not even have the courage to say sorry. He just never talked to her again. Don't worry about mistakes in English. You are having a conversation, not submitting a university paper ;-) I am a native speaker (and writer) of English, and I get it wrong sometimes too.
