What would you do if you would accidentally find a very important and old treasure in the woods? Let's say you have some business at that place, you are digging or you just go treasure hunting  with a metal detector and you come across a coffer.

In some countries, these findings have to be declared, passed over to authorities as it could be ancient and belonging to state treasure.

It is depending on the contents of the treasure.
That treasure is probably contain a lot of gold and/or other valuable stuff.
If there is a paper (or anything in/on the treasure), which says that the treasure belongs to the government (or to anyone), then I would not keep it, and I would not try to sell it.
I would pass it on to the authorities or to the owner(s), if he/she/they are civilians.
Or if they are not living anymore, which is a very high possibility in the case of an old treasure, then to their descendants.
If there is no statement of the owner, then I would definitely keep it and I would try to sell it.
Probably not the full amount at the same time.
And definitely not at the same place, and not for the same person.
Maybe I would wait months or years between the sellings.
I currently don't have any real experience with this, but if you would do this cleverly, then you probably would become millionaire or at least you would have a good amount of money, and you probably would not get in trouble.

It depends on. If it is from an archeological value maybe I handle it over to the authorities, or a museum. But the best is to ask my layer first.
