Artificial Intelligence

..............................................................................................................................................................................
Popular literature is replete with scary renditions of Artificial Intelligence. Numerous articles, stories, and novels depict an Eeeeeeeevil AI taking over the world to the detriment of humanity.

<center>
The
[Terminator](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_(character))
 franchise for example
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/94/T-800_%28Model_101%29.png
[Terminator](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_use_rationale_guideline)
 staring
 [Arnold Schwarzenegger](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Schwarzenegger)
</center>

From my perspective it appears that all of HollyWeird and most of the legacy publishers to include the Hugo wanna-bes have bought into this meme. The world is doomed if we let the evil machine overlords take over.

<center>***It's Too late***
_been there...done that_
</center>

I suggest that we have been in a war with a form of artificial intelligence since shortly after the Agricultural Revolution. It’s not pretty either.

I suggest that when an organization reaches a certain size then the wants and needs of the organization begin to take priority over the wants and needs of the individuals who comprise that organization. It’s been rationalized throughout history with pretty words such as

<center>
https://www.theobjectivestandard.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/472px-Leonard_Nimoy_William_Shatner_Star_Trek_1968-236x300.jpg
 [_the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few_](https://www.theobjectivestandard.com/2013/09/spocks-illogic-the-needs-of-the-many-outweigh-the-needs-of-the-few/)
</center>

Which the liberals who rule Hollyweird and the american news media brazenly plagiarized from such benevolent individuals such as the author of the timeless phrase

<center>
[_"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_each_according_to_his_ability,_to_each_according_to_his_needs)
[GodBotherers](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/God_botherer)
</center>
 have been using the divinity pretext forEVER

<center>[The Divine Right of Kings](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_right_of_kings)</center>

I submit that ever since (and perhaps due to the psychic trauma derived from) the melting of the glaciers and the advent of agriculture when people first began to live in groups...that we’ve been beset by meta human intelligence.

Recently this phenomena has been describe in many ways.

The ***Iron Laws*** for example of which there are several.

<center>
[The Iron Law of Bureaucracy](http://www.jerrypournelle.com/reports/jerryp/iron.html)
states that.
</center>

* _First, there will be those who are devoted to the goals of the organization. Examples are dedicated classroom teachers in an educational bureaucracy, many of the engineers and launch technicians and scientists at NASA, even some agricultural scientists and advisors in the former Soviet Union collective farming administration.
Secondly, there will be those dedicated to the organization itself. Examples are many of the administrators in the education system, many professors of education, many teachers union officials, much of the NASA headquarters staff, etc._

__The Iron Law states that in every case the second group will gain and keep control of the organization. It will write the rules, and control promotions within the organization.__

Then the organizations begin to compete and to feed upon one another.

<center>
[Iron law of oligarchy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_law_of_oligarchy)
</center>

* _all complex organizations, regardless of how democratic they are when started, eventually develop into [oligarchies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oligarchy). Michels observed that since no sufficiently large and complex organization can function purely as a direct democracy, power within an organization will always get delegated to individuals within that group, elected or otherwise._

It does not MATTER what the individual humans within any of the organizations think or want. The organization itself is paramont.

***Is this or is this not a form of Artificial Intelligence?***

Have humans benefited from this relationship?
Perhaps it could be argued that humans have progressed IN SPITE of this relationship. It can be argued that the tendency for Organizations to see to their own self preservation first is detrimental to humans.

Stories of individual heroes bravely sacrificing themselves for their (insert name of organization here) are as common throughout history as mold is in a damp climate.

I can’t recall off hand of a single organization sacrificing itself for an individual.

So what can be done about it?

We MAY know what the tipping point is. It’s called
<center>
[Dunbar’s Number](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar%27s_number)
</center>
 and it’s sometimes depicted as the
<center>
 [monkeysphere](http://www.cracked.com/article_14990_what-monkeysphere.html).
</center>
If that is the case then the solution is obvious.

# <center>KISS </center>.

in this case that would mean
<center> ***Keep it SMALL, Stupid***</center>

 referring to organizations.

Company size, ( as in , _Army Companies, as opposed to regiments or brigades)
 or smaller.

Hmmmmm...why did the army chose that particular number of soldiers ?

just a thought.

You are right on. We have flourished IN SPITE of this relationship. This was a good post. Makes me think (to the extent I am still able). I hunt for signs of natural law and am very hopeful. Thank you and best wishes.

... Mil company: ancient period (how far, don't know) that effective in combat was best in smaller units 60-100 warriors. Dunbar # (100+ something would have to look that up (my ram has weakening space). American revolution army followed Franco Prussian model (@luclylin will know all this). 80/100 US-A - chorence, effectiveness, and group esprit de corps under command. That's it - navy - what do I know.
