Thinking of Changing My Hair

I used to have the darkest brown hair for years and years, dyeing it once every month, and while the Snow White look suited me, it was quite a hassle to keep up. Three years ago I decided to get back to my natural colour, which I started to grow out, and then did several rounds of colour removal and bleaching, to get rid of all the dark colour. It ruined my silky smooth hair pretty badly, and after a couple years, it's only now completely back to it's former glory. So I guess now would be the time to ruin it again! <sub> My hair actually works better if it's a bit roughened up, because this silky smooth texture is impossible to work with. </sub>

The picture on the left is pretty much my natural colour, only a bit lighter, due to sun exposure and sun spray to speed that up. I have only toned my hair once in the past couple years, and now I'm bored with my natural colour. It's not bad but because my hair turns orange from it's natural mousey brown colour after it lives for a few months, I am not a fan. Cooler tones work a lot better for my skin colour, so I've been thinking of doing something drastic to my hair.

For a while now, an idea has been brewing in my head that I should try blonde hair. Life is too short not to try if blondes really do have more fun. I haven't been blonde since I was maybe four years old, my hair started to get darker pretty early on, so I really don't know what it would look like on me. 

I realised I have this wonderful tool called Photoshop, and even with my very limited skills, I could at least try to see what my hair would look if it was lighter.

I think you could, too ;) Honestly, I like your natural hair color - it's still pretty blonde and it suits you well, but I agree with ya, life's too short not to try extremely light blond hair. :D 

Although that might mean you'd have to bleach it? Which is, as you yourself said, just shitty for your hair. So in case you do that, I wish you the minimum amount of damage ;)

Yes, bleaching is definitely going to happen, but I have high hopes for my hair surviving it when I go to a salon and have a professional do it. I think I did hardcore bleach three times in two weeks to get the dark out, and even that didn't completely ruin my hair to the point that it would just break off. My hair is on the lighter brown side so I think that would both make it easier to go blonde, and to have it suit me, my features are light overall.

Oh right, I had not considered the presence of a professional. Man, your hair is hardcore :O I bleached it once and it got really, disappointingly gross and was damaged for about a year...

Very true. You're lucky with those features, you can accommodate, it seems, a wide range of hair colors :)

Just make sure to use some really good service. A month ago my girlfriend wanted to dye her hair purple. I had really high expectations beacause it should be really cool afterward. Well, the result was a couple of light purple stripes. Needless to say we both were disappoined and she paid 90Eur for this shit.

Yeah you really gotta do the research before going to a salon to do drastic changes, hair is actually quite hard to work with, colour theory is not easy and everyones hair reacts differently. I hope your girl finds a good colourist than can make her dream purple hair happen.
