J. Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer) did not budge, firm in his decision to refuse to pay ransom for the kidnappers of his grandson, Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer), despite pressure from various parties including his son-in-law, Gail (Michelle Williams). Director Ridley Scott staunchly decided on a re-shot to kick Kevin Spacey out of the post-tampering film of a sexual assault case, despite having only nine days for many people a suicide mission. Both Getty and Scott are confident of their decision because it holds one important capital: experience, Scott's 40-year-old experience in the film industry, as well as the way he handles the behind-the-scenes problem, is also visible from the results on the screen. All the Money in the World, as the adaptation of Painfully Rich's book: The Outrageous Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Heirs of J. Paul Getty by John Pearson, packed with pacing precision and dynamics. Scott mastered the basics of telling stories. When the flow should be run, when to walk slowly, when to pause to give the audience the opportunity to digest the facts

All maturity matters, which Plummer owns, so that meet preparation does not stop him from giving a performance that for many actors may take a long time to explore the role. In the hands of Plummer, Getty is a powerful magnetic field that attracts attention when filling the screen. He was the successful oil tycoon and the richest man at the time (1973) who was willing to bargain for an hour to get a cheap statue and shake the hands of a son like a business partner after splitting for years rather than hugging warmly. Some of the spectators (including myself) may be fond of asking, "does Getty have a warehouse where she swims in a coin pool?".

When Paul was kidnapped, and the kidnappers asked for a ransom of $ 17 million, Getty just laughed in front of the media crew while declaring reluctant to pay. Then go Gail who tried to persuade her father-in-law to want to set aside greed for the sake of the grandchildren. When the effort was in vain, aided by Fletcher Chase (Mark Wahlberg) as the adviser to Getty plus former CIA members and police, Gail tried to find her own way to save Paul. Gail refused to crumble. The freshness that actually provoked negative media opinion. According to one journalist, a mother ought to weep over the fate of the abducted son.

But Gail was reluctant to behave as expected. He resisted expectations and dared to act alone. Courage radiated from the stinging and sardonic stare of Williams. The actress's eyes talk so much. Similar to his never-explosive but binding film through investigation and character studies, Williams expressed a stack of flavours without great overflow. Gail's chat with Fletcher at the end of the movie implies a stack of interpretations. Did he let the man settle down? Is he secretly in love?, Beyond investigation, the intensity of All the Money in the World comes from an invitation to the audience to question the real intentions of Getty. Is it true that he is just a miser or is he running a veiled mind game? This is the real puzzle, which is present while enveloped in the majestic and mysterious music made by Daniel Pemberton. All the Money in the World is a packed dish with basic breakthrough style. And Scott is so master the basics, so the film is presented in such a solid. Not breaking the bounds, nor leaving a lot of defects.

@robmolecule ·
I really want to see this. It's interesting how you compare Getty's decision in the movie to Scott's decision as a filmmaker to remove Spacey. It complicates the movie. At least it does for me if I were to write about it. I kind of like to leave out such behind the scenes information from my thoughts on a movie but it's so tied into this production that it's impossible not to.

@manuelbaptista ·
I love Michelle Williams, I did not really know that Kevin was taken out and the scenes re-shot. What a shame. I am looking forward to watch this any soon.
