Occasionally Jackie Chan touched his serious side. Even considering his age has stepped on 63 years, not infrequently the level of action is lowered, at least with the stunt more "friendly". The Foreigner as Stephen Leather's The Chinaman novel's adaptation includes one in which he plays the role of a Chinese restaurant owner in London who seeks to find the killer of the princess. Rather than the relentless breakthrough, director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Green Lantern) and scriptwriter David Marconi emphasized the drama of the inner turbulence of grief at the beginning and continued into the thriller of revenge marred by thick intrigues of conspiracy. There is a poetic melancholy in the opening half when Quan (Jackie Chan), like a father in general, prepares to release his daughter, Fan (Katie Leung) to maturity: to have a lover, to graduate school, to live in a different place. But who would have thought he should remove the princess forever when the bomb explosion as a form of acts of political-scented terrorism occurred. Feeling the apparatus did not act quickly, Quan desperate to move on their own to find the name of the perpetrator. Everything he did, including threatening Liam Hennessy (Pierce Brosnan), vice minister of Northern Ireland.

Of course, revenge flick often keeps the moral ambiguity as for the act of revenge itself. But the Quan action is at a different level where in order to crack down on terrorists, he does something similar with Liam. Marconi's script is, unfortunately, less interested in peeling. After the introduction of the problem, apart from the powerful void of Jackie Chan's eyes, grieving anger, no chance to use the heart of Quan. The film is more interested in displaying another complexity of political conspiracy in the IRA (Irish Republican Army).

Surely not a mistake, especially Brosnan has more than enough capacity as a former radical IRA trapped political dilemma when the intention of bridging peace with Britain is actually considered a form of weakness and even betrayal by his colleagues. Not to mention the personal affairs of the household. But The Foreigner's way of dealing with the complicated intrigue was so superficial. Adhering to the principle of "more twist equals better", the complexity of the film itself created when the application of the element of "trust no one" brought too much. All parties are described as "duplicity" in the process of "originating" between the points of the path.

Fortunately, even in a meagre quantity, a series of actions involving Jackie Chan beat up opponents using empty-handed martial arts or furniture around until the traps of potluck are still capable of exhaling throughout the duration. Phan's physical constraint in his old age is in line with Quan the veteran of the Vietnam War who still retains the greatness of the past. The touch that makes his character one-man army interesting, because although powerful, he remains ordinary people, often exhausted because of age, also have emotional sensitivity, Jackie Chan, Pierce Brosnan, and Martin Campbell. These three names are the key to The Foreigner's saviour. If not Chan, his treats must be mediocre, as well as the political thriller aspect raised by the charism of Brosnan. While the Campbell experience coupled the action is able to give enough force and dynamics in each fistfight. Not surprisingly, yet he played a major role twice to restore the glory of James Bond through GoldenEye (1995) and Casino Royale (2006). Without all three, it could be the equivalent of an action-thriller on the straight-to-DVD shelves.
