Truth or Dare is a Disney Destination Final Destination. The question is, can you produce a good Final Destination with a friendship without sadism? No. Is it enthusiastic to watch Final Destination with minimal levels of violence? No. Perhaps one day Jason Blum is playing truth or dare, choosing a dare, then challenged to produce a horror similar to Final Destination, but only teenagers get stabbed, bumped, shot, with as little blood as possible. Blum should choose the truth and tell the truth that the idea is very bad.

Director Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) who wrote the script with his wife Jillian Jacobs, his friend Chris Roach and the owner of the story idea, Michael Reisz clearly memorized the rules and sequences in teen horror: high school kids with beautiful and handsome looks in Mexico to spend the last spring vacation, craze before parting, and then either because of the boost of libido, the influence of alcohol, the stupidity of young blood, or a combination of all three, they create a problem that provokes the terror of the deadly invaders. Olivia Barron (Lucy Hale) is the main character, the moral compass, and certainly the strongest girl candidate.

"Everyone has a choice". That's the movie's big theme. Repeatedly emphasized, Truth or Dare had time to reflect in my mind when observing the decisions of his character. What about if Olivia staunchly rejects her friend's invitation, Markie (Violett Beane), on vacation? What if Olivia, like the majority of sane people, is reluctant to follow Carter (Landon Liboiron), the man she has just met, gets into the ruins of the church and plays truth or dare? Of course, the contemplation did not last long, considering the film did not try to step into the realm, and not long after, has been busy finish off one by one his character.

The truth or dare game becomes real. Refusing to answer truthfully, refusing to challenge, let alone refusing to play, would bring death. But, on the other hand, honest answers potentially divide friendships. Yes, similar truth or dare in the real world. That's an interesting point to be insinuated, can even be laughed at for fun through the spice of black comedy. The problem is, this film appears too serious when many of his character stance shouting adolescent stupidity. As if the maker-and the actors who played no less seriously and precisely to produce acting as wooden sticks-forgot that the premise of truth or dare truth is ridiculous. In fact, some moments (for example Markie who always went jealous at the crunch) plus timing scenes Wadlow actually effective laughter.

Truth or Dare is a horror that is based on the anticipation of the audience on the challenges moreover the character will face, and most importantly, how the methods to finish them one by one. The manuscript did not supply enough ammunition for the director to play with the deaths. The knife stabs and bullet wounds become routines as the mainstay of the movie use. Aggravating the situation of Wadlow's reluctance to push the rating limit of PG-13 as far as possible. Do hands hit by a hammer? Just blisters. Eyes punctured pens? Without blood (seepage under the door is not counted). Did neck hit the pool table? Quite faint bone sounds broken. The majority is not shown explicitly.

Presenting the terror of a game, which is certainly accompanied by a variety of rules, Truth or Dare is in fact violating, or rather forgetting the rules themselves, which implies the confusion of the authors concluding the series. Why would I care about a movie that breaks the rules it creates? For what also cares about a film that tells about the challenge to the courage of his character if the courage was not owned by his film? There is one character named Ronnie (Sam Lerner). He is depicted as a big mouth, brave on the outside, but faltering in the face of real challenges. Truth or Dare is the same as Ronnie. Hey movie, I dare you to grow some balls!

RATING (4/10)

Don't forget, give your feedback in the comment section

The best thing I can say about this flick is that I enjoyed the cast more than I expected. Lucy Hale is a charming lead, but it is Violet Beane that shines. Considering they throw every single dramatic acting situation that you’d find in acting school at her, she manages to pull it off better than you’d expect. As far as the rest of the cast is concerned, Tyler Posey, Sophia Ali, Nolan Gerard Funk are enjoyable enough. I did however really like both Hayden Sizeto - who was fantastic in EDGE OF SEVENTEEN - and Hemlock Grove star Landon Liboiron. Considering most of the characters in this current trend of PG-13 supernatural teen horror are just awful, I found myself sort of caring what happened to Olivia and pals. TRUTH OR DARE is mostly ridiculous, but it’s occasionally a fun (dumb) flick. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a good film, but at least it has the sense to not take itself too seriously. Sure it is by the books without an original bone in it’s cinematic body, but you may actually enjoy yourself. Director Jeff Wadlow hasn’t reinvented the wheel, but his take on college kids doing stupid things is aware enough that you can forgive some of that and just enjoy the ride. If you are looking for something special when it comes to scares, you can definitely find something far better, and a lot more quiet, than this currently at a theatre near you. However, if you want to see a dumb flick with your friends and not take things too seriously, you might even have a a smile worthy experience. And that is the truth… but I wouldn't dare you to see this one.
