Since about 100 years ago and some nation one of the most impressive inventions that man has ever seen, a mechanical device with some chemistry could reveal things as the eye saw them, it is the camera a universal invention that gave rise to many experiments, at first perhaps it was only limited to the elites but gradually democratized the technology, today we have it in our smatphones. The artist of today is one of those great artists who were born to make the photographic world evolve, this time I bring you a little about the life of Andras Gursky known as the chronicler of capitalism and globalization in contemporary life.

In the last 50 years we have gone through one of the bloodiest warmongering periods in history, the Second World War and the beginning of the developed capitalist era as we know it today, the role that Andreas Gursky plays in all this is to portray precisely in a period of 30 years that industrial transformation that dominated the world giving it a new face.

Since childhood Gursky was linked to photography because his parents had a modest commercial photography studio, and although he never felt attached to this business he was perfectly lucky to learn the trade, in the 1970's he enters the field of leadership training Folkwangschule (Folkwang School) of West Germany for professional photographers where he reinforced even more knowledge, one of his dreams was to be a photojournalist but he was never hired for that purpose.

From the 80s Gursky began to mature his production, touching on global themes in his photographs and his intention to make his photographs had a larger scale, at that time the formats to present the photographs was album type.

In 1981 also took place his first exhibition, the debut of the artist was with his series entitled images of doormen, where for a period of time portrayed the trade of security guards in Germany. Already in 1987 Gursky graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, following the line was concerned to develop work around the city while increasing the format of their images.

At the beginning of the 90s there is one of the most disastrous economic crises in history, it was the opportune moment to portray what life was like in the first cities of the world like Tokyo, Los Angeles, Stockholm and Hong Kong after the collapse of the markets and in an attempt to keep the markets afloat, Gursky approaches the factories to the crowds, the urban landscapes.

Until that time very few photographers dared to experiment with digital techniques to manipulate the final photograph, Gursky is one of the forerunners of the use of primitive digital editing tools.

Following his line as a chronicler of capitalism and globalization, he creates his sere 99 Cent, a series based on photographs taken at discount stores.

His works are currently auctioned off for several million euros, but Gursky prefers to maintain his vision of the world, seeking the best techniques to capture in his photographs the drastic change and no turning back that capitalism has left in our lives.
