<b><center><h1>Simple but very effective!</h1></center>

Years ago I built a catwalk for our feline that runs along the upper wall of a large part of our living room. It is about 8 inches deep and it is fairly sturdy. You can see it in the picture below from 2012. So yesterday in order to avoid the heat for a little while I spent a few minutes making a box frame for a shelf. We have little storage in our house so I have to come up with unique solutions in order to keep things up and out of the way from little hands.

Fortunately, the National Audubon Society Field Guides are all 4x6 inches so the use of 2x6 boards worked perfectly. Plus the 2x6 fit perfect on the underside of the catwalk since it is actually 5 1/2 inches wide, not the advertised 6.  @stryeyz just got me 3 more field guides at a used bookstore so I had to do something for a shelf.

The shelf was super easy to make. I cut 2 boards to 24 inches and the others to 9 1/2 inches. I drilled 3 holes on each end of the 24 inch boards for the screws so they didn't split the wood. I drilled a single hole in the top board in the center so I could mount the shelf from below before putting in 2 screws from above. The books are not super heavy but I want to make sure that the shelf is sturdy since it is hanging right above my computer desk. This makes it so my field guides are within quick and easy reach when I am on the computer.

I only have about 2 or 3 guides left to get and I will have a full set. I may need to make a new shelf if I do get the other guides though as they will overflow this one...
