Tonight will be the 3rd night in a row of near or at freezing temps. Sunday night was about 35 or 36F, last night - well actually this morning the temp got down to 31 or 32F, and tonight is expected to be near the 36 or 37F range. The coldest point this morning ended up damaging only a few of my really young summer squash and one small cucumber that was hanging on the fence. 

I spent a good portion of my day picking beans. I now have 50 pounds of mostly purple and yellow haricot verts with a small smattering of green mixed in. If the temps don't go too low tonight then tomorrow I will be picking more of the green which should put me at about 60 pounds in the cooler. If I can sell them all it is over $160 of beans!

The wonderful part of the cooler temps is the Kale does incredible. Kale is a cool weather crop but I have managed to get 3 varieties that do well in the short stints of high summer heat. Tronchuda(the one on the left) is the best kale for hot environments as it is the last Kale to bolt. I have been growing it for 6 years now and it has proved to be VERY consistent. I just wish that our Fall would last longer but being northern tier means we get cold snaps that drop down from Alaska about this time each year. By the end of October there is nothing in the garden that will survive the nightly freezes.
