Yesterday afternoon after our oldest’s last soccer game for the season in the morning we went to the south side of Spokane and purchased our 1979 Sun Runner 17 ft power boat. The process went quite smoothly, the trailer tires and bearings are still okay, the boat hull is in pretty good condition with just some chips to the ribs on the forward side, and the glass is still intact. Along with the boat I also got another outboard that has a bad lower end but a new top end motor. The new top end is a 150 hp motor and the one on the boat now is only 115 hp.

As you can see the boat is dirty. It had water sitting in it covering to the floor so it smells pretty rank right now. I have already began to remove the old carpeting and will be getting it ALL removed this week to allow for the sun to bake the gunk a bit. The worst part of the whole thing is going to be the gallon of acetone I am going to need to use to get all the shitty carpet glue up from the fiberglass. Good thing I have respirators for working inside the bow cover.

Having been sitting for 4 years or so the boat saw no upkeep or regular cleaning. The aft end is going to be fairly straight forward to clean and organize. The battery box is the red container which gets strapped to the floor next to the bilge. I am going to be doing a good bit of electrical work to get everything in much better condition and will be installing some nice LED lights, a sound system, better gauges, and a switch console.

First things first is getting the cleaning going and testing the systems out. I am going to toss a battery in it and see what all will power up. That will be a big test there. If things come on and power up then it should prove to be a pretty straight forward process to rewire everything.
