<b><center><h1>BEAR LAKE BOULDERING HAS BEGUN!!!</h1></center>
___
I can't even fully express how COMPLETELY HAPPY I am to find my own climbing area that is only 3 MILES from my house!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP I'm sooooo damned excited. This is something that I have been looking for, honestly for 10 years, and NOW I HAVE IT!!!!!!! I guess that my clovers are having a bit of an effect...
So I went with the family and friends to the lake today. As soon as we got there I bolted with my pack filled with my brush kit, climbing shoes, chalk bag, and water. I quickly got to the first of the boulders which overlooks the lake. After a fairly quick reconnaissance circuit I settle on this as the first problem to put up. I scrubbed the rock with a wire brush and a nylon bristled brush to clean the major hand holds of lichen and moss. I felt like I spent a long time cleaning Lakeside, but as a first problem for the area I am fine with taking my time.
The problem starts of a solid foot hold and then works up the overhang using large holds much of the way. It is about 13 feet tall with a pretty poor landing.

Just around the corner from Lakeside is this little face that I did not clean but it contains a pretty solid little problem. Lil Sumtin is just a little problem that climbs the face using the right and left sides for the main holds. This was a random quick ascent that I feel is a proper little problem.

After working the first couple of problems and cleaning a large amount of moss i headed to the original boulder that I found. This is the rock that has been in my head for over 2 weeks and has been eating like a parasitic worm, creating a massive desire to climb it. Today I finally got to it and I am so happy I did. I named it By Golly for the simple fact that, By Golly I made it! The holds are all cleaned nicely, brushed of the scree, and the overhang takes you out over an 8 to 10 foot drop. The climb is about 15 feet tall and does not use the large ledge on the far right.

I stood on top of By Golly and to the south of me I saw a rock face through the trees. It peaked a VERY LARGE curiosity in me. Once I had finished By Golly I packed up and hiked the couple hundred yards to the rocks I saw.
<center><h1>HOLY SHIT!!!!!!</h1></center>
I have a mass of rock to climb with some seriously hard problems. I of course decided to choose the largest of the faces, but it happened to contain an incredible number of jugs that make the overhanging face a slightly more gentle experience. As I cleaned and climbed I found the line to contain 3 different starts which create an increasingly longer problem. High Hopes starts on the higher of the foot holds/ledges and makes the problem about 3 or 4 moves, Higher Hopes is 5 or 6 moves, and then Highest Hopes 8 to 10 moves long.
My honest opinion of these 3 problems is High is about a 5.6, Higher is about V0, and Highest is a V1.

The last problem I did was Roadside Romp. It is in the formation to the side of High Hopes about 100ft. The little problem goes up an easier, tiered, broken section of the rock. To either side of this problem lies a couple of boulders that contain some pretty difficult looking problems that I am keeping in mind for when I have the easier stuff put up. Roadside Romp ascends the face pretty much in line with the Pine tree that is growing in front of it.

OMG OMG OMG!!!!! I have my own boulders to develop into an actual little bouldering area. I still feel out of my head about this! I know EXACTLY where I will be spending much of my days, fighting the mosquitoes, cutting the brush around the rocks, taking pictures to document the climbs, and in general developing a new climbing area for the Inland Northwest.
