Precisely timed clicking noises can counter signs of Alzheimer’s in the brains of mice and improve memory. An earlier study of mice, by neuroscientist Li-Huei Tsai of MIT’s Picower Institute for Learning and Memory and colleagues, focused on the eyes. Lights that flickered exactly 40 times a second (a “twinkling” effect, Tsai says) kicked off gamma waves, a type of brain wave thought to happen during concentration. In mice, these brain waves somehow reduced amyloid-beta, the protein that piles up in the brains of people with Alzheimer’s (SN: 1/21/17, p. 13). But in that study, A-beta was reduced only in the part of the brain that handles vision — an area not thought to be key to Alzheimer’s progression.

Sounds that hum at a rate of 40 clicks per second, or 40 hertz, do the same trick of spurring gamma waves and clearing A-beta, but in a more relevant part of the brain — the hippocampus, a structure that is important for memory and that’s affected by Alzheimer’s, the researchers found.

It’s also not known whether the results in these genetically engineered mice, which mimic a rare and aggressive form of Alzheimer’s, would apply to people. Tsai has cofounded a company, Cognito Therapeutics, that is testing the combined light-and-sound approach in older people with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. The study isn’t done yet, Tsai says, but so far “we haven’t seen any undesirable effects.”

I have to say this in reply. Genetically modified mice are not the same as humans with Alzheimer's from natural life. I just watched my mother suffer from the disease of Alzheimer's for eight years, and she died this past December. It is a terrible disease and it is becoming more common even among younger people. My mother was in her early 60's when she was afflicted. Mice are not the answer. Scientist need money from the powers that be to actually develop a cure, or at least a real form of suppression for this disease. Unfortunately our governments would rather spend money on wars and capturing oil and money...instead of helping those in need.
The disease of Alzheimer's is supposed to triple among the population over the next ten years. There is no doubt that genetically modified food and several other factors are adding to the spread of the disease. These factors include such things as the wide use of chemicals in our farming system as well as injecting animals with steroids to make their meat more attractive to consumers.
Until corporations no longer control the items we depend upon to live our lives we will be getting sicker and sicker. This is why I have decided to move to Peru. I placed an apple on a table while I was in the USA this past year. The apple stayed looking bright red and juicy for three months and never rotted. I placed an apple on the table two days ago upon arrival in Peru. The apple is already starting to rot. This tells me that the food in the US is Frankenstein food. It is not real. The food is full of chemicals that we are not aware of.
I used to be in dispute of these facts myself...until I left the country and found out the truth. It is time to wake up and get back to reality. The bottom line and making money only matters to a few. Being healthy and happy matters to all of humanity.
Lets wake up people. Please open your eyes and see the truth. Together we can all make a difference.
One other thing I just realized from this post is that the mice had to be genetically modified to have Alzheimer's disease. The mice did not get the disease through natural means. What does that tell you?

I am of the mind that the garbage that we have been stuffing into ourselves since the end of WW2 has led to the rampant degenerative "diseases" that the world is seeing now. My grandmother died slowly of alzheimers years back when she was in her late 70s. At this point I am for anything that gets us closer to a real treatment or preventative for this since it is affecting so many people.

The conspiracy theorist section of my brain freaks out that this is all engineered, and in a weird way it is. Wide spread use of chemicals of all kinds that have no long term studies of true toxicity seems like a prescribed problem. The medical industrial complex is a real and dangerous thing in this world.

We would all do well to keep closer track of the bullshit that goes on in the medical world. The track record of drug manufacturers is littered with horrible outcomes for many people all in the name of money. There have been countless people who have been helped but at the expense of many others. Humanity seems to think that meicine is always right, but there is a reason that they consider it a "PRACTICE".

*You've been visited by @riverflows from Homesteaders Co-op.*

**Absolutely fascinating. I do know there has been successful research done into alzheimers and music - I always tell my Dad if he goes senile, I'll play him Harry Manx, Bob Dylan or Alison Kraal and others to wake him up! He seems fine with that plan**
