Silencing anti-science, anti-GMO on social media isn't going to save lives.

If we're going to talk about resurrecting right-wing hate speech or, more relevant to my upcoming point, fake news, let's talk about a bit of perverse, mostly left-wing fake news.

Unless you're going to label Greenpeace a right-wing group, which is a stretch not even Stretch Armstrong could make, it's clear that anti-GMO rhetoric is a mostly left-wing matter.

The alleged right-wing hate speech that is making the news has killed, by proxy, what, a couple dozen at most. The fake news usually just results in more people walking around in tinfoil hats.

GMOs could and have saved millions of lives. There's never been any credible evidence that they're more dangerous than conventional crops. Leftist groups have still been demanding that golden rice needs to be tested more while they hypocritically tear up test crops.

Vitamin A deficiency kills about 670,000 children under the age of five per year and leaves an additional 500,000 kids permanently blind. That means, since golden rice was approved for safety, 10 million kids have died and 7.5 million have been blinded. On a global scale, this "fake news" and "conspiratorial speech" from the left has been, is, and will continue to be deadly.

Are we going to demand the social media companies ban Greenpeace's page or other Anti-GMO conspiracy pages? I certainty wouldn't.

Of course, speech is incredibly dangerous. Pretty much anything that's philosophically important is dangerous. But, silencing these anti-science, anti-GMO nut-bags on social media isn't gonna keep them from destroying test crops or do a damn thing to help those kids.

Not only do I want them to speak, I want them on my feed. Even if I fail to cajole them, maybe I can convince someone on the periphery of the conversation and slightly move the needle.
