Xrp might replace swift but I do not get what the xrp token has to do with that, they can replace swift without the token so why have a token in the first place?

Following the recent xRapid pilot test, XRP was shown to offer up to an additional 30% saving over xCurrent. Once banks start to adopt XRP, the others will follow, because XRP would give those adopters a competitive edge. These extra savings make Swift's demise and XRP adoption inevitable.
