Have you ever joined an event that you do not expect that you would be joining?

Last September 11, it was really very unexpected that my mom and I would join a bouquet design workshop at SM Uptown. My brother and I just went there to buy some school supplies. I really ran out of some short bond paper. I also bought some cute pens and I thought it would not hurt my wallet, but I was wrong. I bought a lot of those cute novelty pens that were displayed at the Department Store.
My mom on the other hand was suppose to buy some things, but we told her that we were already hungry. When my mom and I met, we decided to go home already for dinner. But we stumbled upon some ladies who invited us to join their flower workshop.

Of course! We could never say no to such a wonderful offer.

To give you a brief background, the September Blooms is a flower shop located at SM Uptown. They sell flowers and pre-made bouquets. My brother and I love to buy some of their products especially during mother's day and other holidays whether that would be working or non-working holidays. Anyhow, they had just celebrated their sixth year anniversary that is why they decided to conduct a flower bouquet workshop to ladies. They gave us different flowers to work with such as roses, sunflowers, and a lot more! I find it amazing to take part in this type of event for free!

Like I mentioned, I really wanted to have a lot of photos but unfortunately I have not brought my phone with me, that is why it was just my mom who was so busy taking selfies of herself and of her finish products! Oh how much she loves to post and share stuff over Facebook!

The presenter and demonstrator on the said event was Ms. Kristine B. Sarceda. She is the general managers, florist, and stylist of September Blooms Flower Shoppe. We also were able to receive a certificate as well that is the reason why I knew who the florist was. And aside from that, we were able to receive sheets of paper with techniques on how to take care of your flowers and make them last longer than usual. Do not worry! I will share to you some of those techniques on the last portion of this blog entry!

On the photos below, you would see some of the flower arrangements that my mother and I tried. I swear, we tried so hard but it is just that our hands do not cooperate that much.

We were taught on how to make a bride's maid bouquet, normal bouquet, bracelet made up of flowers, and a lot more! I was so happy that we were all allowed to take home all of our finished products. The flowers lasted for a week so it seemed like someone just sent me flowers. I actually receive flowers seldom that is why I was just undeniably elated.

I know the workshop would be put into good use in the future and I am really looking forward to help my friends arrange their flowers on their wedding day!

How to take good care of your flowers?

Disclaimer: I got these techniques from the handouts that they gave us so I am not pretty if these were taken from the internet.

> The first thing you need to bear in mind that when you want to make your flowers last longer, start with a clean vase and good quality water.

Bacteria and fungi are very prevalent and may easily penetrate, thus it is important to start with clean water to preserve and protect the flower. Aside from that, it is important to always use warm and clean water . Avoid water with sodium as it is toxic to roses and carnations. Also avoid water with fluoride for gerbera, freesia, and gladiolus.

> Flower Food

It helps to stimulate the flower's original environment and allows it to fully develop. It will also increase the life of cut flowers. It contains carefully balanced mixtures. Instead of buying commercial flower food, you can also opt to make your own. You can check out Wikihow for instructions.

> Remove Foliage and Cut the Stem

Re-cutting of the stem at least an inch allows area for hydration. It also prevents the end of the stem for resting on the bottom of the vase.

> Check the water level daily

It is important to check the water daily and replenish when needed particularly when the water starts to have a cloudy appearance.
