Ceiba el árbol gigantesco de nuestros bosques.

Ceiba pentandra **(Ceiba)**un árbol enorme que nos da sombra y cobijo en nuestros campos.

Cuenta una leyenda que el árbol es tan grande por que una vez una princesa huía de sus captores, y en un cruce un árbol de ceiba como este abrió su tronco y le permitió esconderse en su tronco salvándola de una muerte segura, por eso su gran tamaño.

Este árbol crece hasta los 50 metros es altísimo, y se vuelve un protector de mucha fauna en sus ramas y tronco, su madera es muy apreciada por su tamaño grandioso, recuerdo que hace mucho uno cayó cerca de casa y dado su gran tamaño sirvió para hacer una lancha o cayuco de una sola pieza, por lo que se volvió una leyenda, la gran ceiba de la que se construyo una lancha que surco el océano.

Sirve como sombra para cafetales y para plantas que requieren sombra, cuando crece es bastante liso en su tallo pero cuando esta tierno es muy espinudo como pueden ver en las siguientes fotos, y parece un pequeño árbol sin gracia claro cuando crece de vuelve un enorme árbol que sobresale en todo el bosque.

Sus frutos son unas bellotas en las cuales se encuentran muchas semillas, que son transportados por medio de unos algodoncillos que hacen que las semillas vuelen largas distancias para su posterior reproducción, es por ello que en su época de floración el suelo del mismo se cubre de un manto blanco.

Son muy buenos para el ambiente dado que por su tamaño contribuyen en la captación del agua y protección de nuestros mantos acuíferos.
