Before you continue reading, I must remind you that this is not my list of best moments in gaming, in case you think that way, but more of things that happened outside of video game. Enjoy your time reading my post, and thank you!

With 2017 coming to its end, 2018 is ready to greet us gamers with lots of video games everyone been anticipating. But before that, let's take a look back at whatever happened in gaming industry in 2017. I wonder what kind of joy and hilarious disaster will happen in 2018..

Blocktober Trend

Blocktober is a new trend similar to inktober where artists all over the world would post their drawings each day on October. The different is blocktober is gamedevs newly-made trend where they would showcase the look of their games when in early stages, or to be precise known as "blockouts", a development stage where there's still little to no detail applied to the game such as textures, lighting, vegetations, eye candies whatsoever.

It was first started by Michael Barclay, Naughty Dog's designer, with his tweet on 1 October 2017. You can read about it more on my ancient post here.

Leaked Bully 2 Concept Arts

I really hope that this is not going to be one of those dead exciting news forgotten in time, or worse, fake. A twitter account @Bully2Info shared a bunch of what appeared to be concept arts that suggesting Bully 2 is possibly in development, or planned by Rockstar Games. I hope the silence of this we got from Rockstar is because they wanted to keep it a secret, not because it's fake.

Mass Effect: Andromedat animation tho

Old meme, I know.

This was among my most anticipated games list. I played Mass Effect 3 long ago but didn't finish it, when I was about to get Mass Effect 3 to play again I found about the next series of the game that looked amazing... in static screenshot images. Although I'm not among those who are disappointed by the game because I didn't purchase it right away, I think I know how, uhh... laughable the animation and physics was.

Sure games have their flaws, and some have so many like Skyrim and Fallout 4 where glitches is the feature in it. But still, somehow Mass Effect: Andromeda beat them to it. Well at least we could enjoyed it as a meme, right?

Game Developers Reveal Hidden Mechanics of Their Games

This was also gamedev-made trend like blocktober, but it was only trending at that time. Started by Jennifer Scheurle, lead designer at Opaque Space on 1 September with her tweet;

And many other gamedevs follow suit, revealing their hidden mechanics and apparently some of them are "holding your hands" without you realizing, like that example Ms. Scheurle written. Another example is from one of the maker of System Shock, revealed that in System Shock the player's last bullet do double damage.

Here's some of the other revealed hidden mechanichs form gamedevs..

And BioShock creators, including Ken Levine jumped into the thread too!

Many people don't like this and disappointed by these developers methods, and Jennifer Scheurle explained why gamedevs do that secret tricks to gamers..

Now I wonder if Dark Souls have that hidden hand-holding mechanics too..

PUBG VS Fortnite Battle Royale

When Fortnite Battle Royale announced, many gamers excited about it and one of the reasons was because it's free to play, a free to play alternative to PUBG. And then shortly after it was released, PUBG developer, Bluehole Studio joined the crowd but not cheering of excitement because they were unhappy with it. Bluehole concerned that Epic Games copying PUBG experience.

A title, you can own that as a patent, but this controversy raised a question in gaming. Can you own a genre?
The world is grim enough can't we just all get along? (Guess where that line from).

Hideo Kojima's Mind Twisting Death Stranding Trailers

If you've been following Kojima-sensei's Death Stranding trailers since the first two ones, you know how it twist your mind in high quality. I missed a couple of them but I've watched the last one and it was as astounding as it was disturbing. I still can't figure out or having a guess to what's going on in this upcoming Death Stranding. What was started with an explosion? Is it about alien invasion? And what's with the baby? He's everywhere. Do you see riddles put in a set of trailers everyday? I don't.

Heck, I even starting to wonder if what I watched was really a video game trailer. And they said video game IS NOT AN ART. Ah well..

Nintendo Switch

If I remember correctly, the release of Nintendo Switch and its early games had some boo! in it. But as it kept going, it now become so successful that it has sold over 10 million units under a year. I'm guessing the biggest reason was (or is still) Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, especially because...

Mario Showed His Nipples For the First Time And Everyone Loses Their Minds

On 13 September Nintento of America announced (or it was teased?) Super Mario Odyssey on Twitter. Who would have guessed that shirtless Mario became so groundbreaking it might as well became one of the reason for people to get their hands on Mario's nipp-- I mean, on Super Mario Odyssey.

Star Wars Battlefront II: Microtransactions Awakens

What's the most memorable moment/things that ever happen Star Wars franchise? The "I am your father" scene? The Anakin vs Obi Wan duel? The Rogue One movie? Or Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic? Apparently in 2017, this controversial attack of the microtransactions would be remembered in one of those "moments" in Star Wars, thanks to EA Games. You don't like it? I find your lack of funds disturbing!

CD PROJEKT RED's Cyberpunk 2077 Files Stolen by Hackers

On 8 June, CD PROJEKT RED announced on Twitter stating that their files have been stolen, including the files for Cyberpunk 2077, and of course, the thieves demands ransom for the files or it will be published otherwise, which is... pathethic. I mean, seriously, is this jealousy to a successful game company or what? Or are they just some excited script kiddies after watching Who Am I?

Thankfully, the stolen files are "old and largely unrepresentativeā of the current stage of Cyberpunk 2077 development.
