Hey steemit I wanted to do a small guide on tips and tricks for creating a character from the imagination.
Pt 1 will be an introduction to the topic, part 2 will go into how to study and retain the information required to develop a character, and part 3 will go into things like drawing styles and colors
First things first: Ask yourself what/who you'd like to create. I wanted to draw a human warrior/martial artist apprentice in their youth, so this is what I had to study, if you wanted to draw an angry tiger fishermen you'd have to study the appearance of various tigers and fishermen. When drawing something that could exist but doesn't, you must loosely base it of some aspect of reality or nature for it to be successful
Now let's think about what makes a successful character. What makes a character successful is that when you look at the image of the character, you could imagine it rotated in 3d space, as well as feel or experience any depicted action or emotion. I like to ensensuate this effect by actually drawing some of the other angles and expressions to show the character can exist in "time" and "space". (change of emotion indicates a change in time, a rotation of the figure indicates a change in space)
I'm gonna make a second part soon on how to study the subjects you want to make a character from, and how to add color or ink to your creations, let me know what you guys think of this lite introduction to character creation
