My almost perfect crime.
Ella was 19 years old, she was a happy girl. Thanks to a car accident her way of reasoning didn't match her age, she was basically like a 13-year-old girl. But she made a mistake, she was in love with me, she didn't take the right precautions and she got pregnant. Since then I began to study my situation in this “secret” relationship.
Her mother offered support and asked her to come home to take care of her and the baby, but Ella refused. In her mind she had made up a fantasy where I would agree to live with her at some point.
She was excited about her pregnancy. I don't know how she could accept living alone with an unplanned pregnancy and especially without my support. I don't want to take responsibility for a son, much less with a woman like that. Her mother doesn’t know that I’m the father of that baby her daughter is carrying and she will, probably, never know but her daughter is hopeful about me.
But something happened...
Margaret, her mother, hasn't seen her daughter for 3 days. Generally, Ella calls her whenever she wants, if two days go by without calling one calls the other, and whenever Margaret senses that something is wrong she goes to Ella's house and rings her door several times.
This time no one answers. Ella doesn't answer either her phone or the door, so her mother calls the police and asks them to open the door of the house because she was afraid that something would happen to her daughter, since she didn’t answer. After explaining everything that normally happened between her and her daughter, as well has her daughters situation, the police agreed and opened the door. They let Margaret pass and they stayed downstairs while she went up the stairs, calling for her daughter.
Suddenly they hear the mother's cry. They run upstairs to see Margaret, looking at a body in a room, with its head covered and a rope around its neck.
Ella had committed suicide. There was a suicide letter in the room as well. Ella wrote that she didn't want to have a fatherless child, that she felt very lonely and no one could understand her, which is why she makes the decision to leave this world.
The investigators tell Margaret that everything indicates that her daughter simply committed suicide, but the mother tells them no. There was no way her daughter would commit suicide because she was so excited about her pregnancy.
No, Ella would never.
Investigators and the coroner conclude that it was a suicide. She arranged her own death and the case was about to be closed.
But Margaret's insistence leads investigators to find pieces that don't match. Ella had several chores to do over the next few weeks. She paid in advance for things for the baby and for someone to fix a room at her house, presumably the baby’s. If she thought about committing suicide why waste money for something like that? The investigation continues.
And that's when they hit me, the interrogation cornered me and I confessed because of the pressure. I told them everything. Everything about how I made her do everything, so that I could set it up as if she committed suicide.
"Ella believed in me. She always did. I asked her to play a game where I told her to write a suicide letter. At first she was nervous but I eventually convinced her to do it, she believed in me after all. After doing and writing in the letter what I asked, I told her to put a pillowcase on her head… And then the rest came faster. Once I had managed to immobilize her I put a rope around her neck from behind and she couldn't do anything.
…Once she stopped moving, I cleaned everything up and left.
It was my perfect crime, I just didn't count on Margaret's stubbornness in insisting that her daughter would not commit suicide and Ella not referring to me about the things she would do at home for her son's arrival.
…Perhaps, in the end, she didn’t trust me that much."

Ela tenía 19 años. Era una chica alegre pero gracias a un accidente automovilístico no tenía mucho razonamiento acorde a su edad. Parecía una joven de 13 años. Pero cometió un error, estaba enamorada de mí, no tomó medidas y quedó embarazada. Desde entonces comencé a estudiar mi situación en esta relación oculta.
Su madre le ofreció apoyo. Le pidió que volviera a casa para cuidarla a ella y al bebe. Pero Ela no quiso aceptar. En la mente de ella pasaba la fantasiosa idea que yo aceptaría vivir con ella en algún momento.
Ela estaba emocionada por su embarazo. No sé cómo podía aceptar vivir sola con un embarazo no planificado y sobre todo sin mi apoyo. No quiero responsabilidad de un hijo y una mujer así a mi cargo. Su madre no sabe que soy el responsable de ese bebe que lleva su hija y nunca lo sabrá. Pero su hija tiene esperanzas sobre mí.
Pero algo lo cambia todo...
Margaret no ve a su hija desde hace 3 días. Generalmente Ela la llama cada vez que quiere, si pasan dos días sin llamar, una llama a la otra. Cuando Margaret siente que algo pasa, va hacia la casa de Ela y le timbra varias veces, pero nadie responde. Ela no le contesta al teléfono ni a la puerta. Llama a la policía y le pide que abra la puerta de la casa porque temía que a su hija le pasara algo, ya que no contestaba. Después de explicarles todo lo que ocurría normalmente entre ella y su hija, la policía accede y abre la puerta. Dejan pasar a Margaret y ellos se quedan abajo mientras ella sube llamando a su hija y de repente oyen el grito de la madre. Suben corriendo para ver en una habitación un cuerpo, con la cabeza tapada y una cuerda en el cuello.
Ela se había suicidado. Por lo menos eso era lo que parecía la escena. Había una nota de suicidio. Ela escribió que no quería Tener un hijo sin padre. Se sentía muy sola y nadie la podía entender. Por eso toma la decisión de dejar este mundo.
Los investigadores le dicen a Margaret que todo refleja que su hija Ela se suicidó. Pero su madre de una vez les dice que no. De ninguna manera su hija se suicidaría porque Ela estaba sumamente emocionada por su embarazo. No, Ela nunca lo haría.
Los investigadores y el forense llegan a la conclusión que fue una muerte provocada. Ela arreglo su muerte y el caso estaba por cerrarse.
Pero la insistencia de Margaret hacen que los investigadores encuentren unas piezas que no concuerdan. Ela tenía preparada varias tareas para hacer en las semanas siguientes. Pagó de anticipo por cosas para su bebe y alguien arreglaría en su casa la habitación. Si pensó suicidarse porque gastar dinero?... Algo no está bien… La investigación continúa.
Y es entonces que dan conmigo. El interrogatorio me acorrala… y confieso…y tuve que contar como hice para que ella dejase todo como que si se suicidaba.
"Ela creía en mí. Le pedí que jugásemos a hacer un juego de relajación. Le dije que escribiera la carta de suicidio. Al principio ella dudo pero yo la convencí de que me acompañara en esta travesura. Ella me creyó.
Luego de hacer y escribir en la carta lo que le pedí, le dije que se colocara la funda de la almohada en la cabeza. Y luego lo demás vino más rápido. Logré inmovilizarla y le coloqué la soga al cuello por detrás y Ela no pudo hacer nada. Dejó de moverse. Limpié todo y me fui.
Era mi crimen perfecto solo que no conté con que Ela no me hizo referencia sobre las cosas que haría en casa por la llegada de su hijo. Y con la terquedad de Margaret al insistir en que su hija no cometería suicidio."
