The mental stress since he experienced about Hannah had taken its toll. When Hannah and Debby came upstairs to say goodnight they found him fast asleep. </p> <p>Debby took Hannah to bed and read her a story and after she made sure that Hannah was comfortable she went back downstairs. </p> <p>She rudely woke up John and made him sit up. </p> <p>" Wake up, we need to talk. You have to remember that YOU are no longer the important one here. Hannah is. I'm supposed to be here to help you. You can't just fall asleep whenever you want to. You have a child to look after. I'm here to help you not to be your babysitter."</p> <p>"I'm sorry sis. It's all just been too much for me to take in. I'm so scared that I'm going to do something wrong. Last night I nearly forgot to feed her. This morning I did not have cereal, and I lost her twice at the airport today."</p> <p>"Well I'm glad that she is not a baby. Then you would have been totally lost. Let her guide you and tell you what she needs. She can talk you know. A five year old is much more independent than you think. Have you thought about schools yet?"</p> <p>John nodded. "I've asked my secretary to call around."</p> <p>"Well the one thing that you need to get into place is some kind of a routine. You should work out a morning and an evening routine. Who is going to watch her while you work, who's going to take her to school.... she can't live out of restaurants, you will need to learn how to cook properly. She needs boundaries. Kids take advantage if they don't have any, so you need a set of rules. She needs a certain bath time, and sleep time, and you should at least read her a story before she goes to bed. John you are responsible for this child. She should now become the most important priority in your life."</p> <p>Debby was babbling on and the more she spoke the more nervous John became. </p> <p>"Honestly Deb, this is too overwhelming. I've lived alone for nearly six years now."</p> <p>"It's not as if you have a choice here John. She is here to stay and she's not going to disappear again."</p> <p>Debby helped John to make a to do list and then she suggested that he appoints a full time nanny. She would help him set up everything as far as possible and then he was on his own. She would always be there to help him, and she would even fly down every few months to come and check up on him and Hannah. </p> <p>Debby made them some hot cocoa and they just talked for a long time. They haven't had brother and sister time for a while now and she knew him better than anyone else. They were twins after all, and they've always had a very strong connection. </p> <p>John took the rest of the week off to get everything into place. He had to cancel a few dates and they were not very happy but Hannah was more important than sex now. </p> <p>Hannah helped him interview nannies a few days later and they appointed a young girl in her twenties. She looked like the perfect candidate and she had experience. She would not be able to live in, but she would come in early and leave whenever John comes home from work. </p> <p>John was happy with that as he didn't trust anyone that far. The saddest day of all was when he had to go and trade in his Porsche for a more economical family vehicle. His Porsche was his baby, but now he had a real baby to look after. </p> <p>The decorators came in the next morning and moved out all his spare room furniture. They used what they could and donated the rest to a charity. John, Debby and Hannah went out for the day. They went to the zoo, and for once John enjoyed the day very much. Hannah absolutely loved her new room and she was slowly settling into things. She missed her mother very much, but she knew that she had no other choice.</p> <p>John was slowly getting into the groove of things and Debby made sure that he followed his schedule. She was flying back on Monday morning, the nanny started on Tuesday and John was scheduled to go to work the day after the nanny arrived. </p> <p>They had found a great school for Hannah and John would drop her and then the nanny would be able to pick her up. John thought about buying a second car for the nanny but he first wanted to see how things worked out. </p> <p>The weekend flew by and before they knew it, life was back to normal. She promised to fly out for a weekend at least once a month and both Hannah and John felt sad when they waved goodbye. </p> <p>John took her to eat breakfast and this time he did not forget her anywhere. There were some definite progress. They spent the day in the mall, and he bought all the things she needed at school. Hannah was all settled for her first day of school and she was actually looking forward to it. She missed her friends but she knew that she would make new friends soon enough. </p> <p>The nanny was scheduled to come in the next morning so she could learn the routine at home. Hannah really liked Sylvia and she took Hannah to the park for a while while John caught up on some work. Everything seemed to run smoothly and John was happy to see Hannah so happy when they returned. </p> <p>John drove the nanny to the school and gave her the daily schedule. He introduced Sylvia to the teacher and Hannah seemed to like the place. He made a point of telling the teacher that no one else was to pick up Hannah except him or Sylvia. </p> <p>John felt proud of himself for everything that he had achieved in the last few days. The routine helped a lot and he was starting to really like having Hannah around.
