Bad service seems to be the norm these days everywhere I go. I live in one of the most beautiful spots in the country, on the South Coast in Kwazulu Natal South Africa. But everybody that lives here, seems to be in a permanent holiday mood. To be friendly and relaxed is one thing, but if it prevents you from providing a proper service, then:</p> <p> <img src="https://i.imgsafe.org/339a236b38.png" width="333" height="234"/></p> <p><a href="https://i.imgsafe.org/3388d30214.png">Image source</a></p> <p>Everywhere I hear people complaining about their businesses. Business is slow, because people don't have money....<em>and I am with them</em>...with the current economic situation in this country, people can't afford to lose any money. What these business owners apparently don't realize, is that when you deliver a bad service, then you can't expect anyone to support you. Today after school, I swallowed my calming tablets and took a deep breath before taking on the trip to the mall. Tomorrow is my husband's birthday, and after postponing this trip for a week or so, I had no other choice but to drive to the mall to go and buy his present. A few things worked in my favor. For once things seemed to be in my favor. I knew exactly what I wanted to buy, and where I wanted to buy it. This is how the conversation went:</p> <h3>Me: "Hello, could I please see the .......................behind the counter?" </h3> <h3>Lady: " HUH???"</h3> <h3>Me: (Now rather irritated, but still smiling) Could I please have a look at the ...................behind the counter?"</h3> <h3>Lady: " Ummm...."</h3> <p>I immediately saw that she had no idea what I was asking, as well as the fact that she was not very bright. Have you ever seen a person and just knew that they were not the sharpest pencil in the box?</p> <p> <img src="https://imgoat.com/uploads/f0e3dad999/18286.PNG" width="356" height="368"/></p> <p>So there I was....I stared at her....and she stared back. It felt as if I was in a staring contest. It was quite clear that she did not understand me at all, and I was obviously not going to get ANY service today. I felt sorry for the shop owner as he clearly appointed the wrong person for the job, and one of these days he will also talk about the economy and how bad it is affecting his shop.</p> <p> <img src="https://imgoat.com/uploads/f0e3dad999/18302.PNG" width="388" height="271"/></p> <p><a href="https://imgoat.com/uploads/f0e3dad999/18303.PNG">Image source</a></p> <p>Needless to say I turned around and walked away because I knew I was fighting a losing battle. This is a total tragedy as we use the dishwasher daily, and there is nothing worse than washing dishes by hand. The fact that we are seven people in the house, makes it a necessity. I hate shopping and appreciate the wonderfulness of Amazon. I got my husband's birthday gift online this year and it saved me a lot of stress and strife.It's a shame about your dish washer. Hope you get it fixed soon. I hate washing dishes and don't know what I'd do if our dishwasher broke. When my husband cooks he dirties every dish in the house.

Men are so difficult to buy for!!!! ...I agree that vouchers are the best option, with so much choice out there now , the special man in our lives can basically shop from home ( lets face it , all they do is moan if we take them with us!) , I basically opt for a playstation network top up and I am suddenly wifey of the year :)

A tortured tale and you know you are completely right... There is no worse trauma than washing dishes by hand. My dishwasher broke a couple of months ago. I do need a replacement!!

Yes, especially some plumbers and handyman. Everybody is complaining about not having a job but there is no service. I complain to the manager if I really got bad service. I tip less in a restaurant if the service was not good. It is just a lack of courtesy and professionalism in a lot of cases.

I think you and I have talked before about the trauma of shopping, especially in malls! And appliance failure is right up there too. Our blender, which we both use every day, exploded and then burst into flames a week or so ago, and now our food processor has also died. Our plan is to have a nice row of shiny new appliances...

I'm sorry, but I don't agree. Command? Where? She greeted the person 'Hello..' and then asked a question: 'Could I please...'. I don't see a command. Plus! The person works there! He/she gets paid to show/sell goods to paying customers. Why should @giantbear excuse herself? She didn't do anything wrong and she's not leaving the room. @giantbear, maybe next time say 'Excuse me' then, don't greet the person, don't make any 'commands' normal customers do by asking to have a look at merchandise and just help yourself to whatever you want to look at BEHIND the counter where the paid employee earns a living! At least you EXCUSED yourself!

You made me chuckle..even though it's actually sad. I had a similar experience. I want a food processor for my birthday. Even though it's still a few months before I have birthday, I went to an electronic store. I looked at the household products. I have to mention I did some research and had an idea. But since I am no expert I figured I ask at a store for more info. Oh boy! π a guy stepped up and offered help. I told him what I was looking for. He didn't know what a food processor was. So he went to his computer and looked on the store website. He showed me mixers, kitchen machines...but no food processor. I said friendly thank you, for your help. But told him that all that was not what I was looking for. It's a shame, when you look for professional advice but you know more about a product as a customer than the person who works there π©
