Of course I had always known of the group, as their hits from the '70s are everywhere in pop culture, and I always liked their music, but it wasn't until I delved into their earlier incarnation that I really grew to love the band. They were first formed in 1967 in London, England by Peter Green (guitar), Mick Fleetwood (drums), and Jeremy Spencer (guitar), recruiting John McVie (bass) shortly after to record on their debut album. The next year, they got a third guitarist, Danny Kirwan. This early version of the band was led by the writing of Peter Green, who was as influenced by the blues as more classically European sounds, which gave their music and albums a unique sound in their world of late '60s rock music. By 1970, Green had left the group, and after some line-up shifts, the arguably more famous line-up with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham came together in the mid '70s, taking the band in more pop oriented direction. This tune is from the band's 1969 album Then Play On, and as mentioned before, is an absolute favorite of mine. The songs alternate back and forth between bluesy/psych rock sounds, to more classical styles, of which this tune is the latter. If you like this song, I cannot recommend this album highly enough.
