I was explaining steemit to a friend who I was introducing to the platform and was giving him an overview of how things work. The talk took us to the transparency and immutability of blockchain. He was intrigued as I was the first I heard this. As I explained based on what little knowledge I have, a thought just struck me: imagine if our lives are on the steemit blockchain.
https://steemitimages.com/DQmQpEb6ArM9vrrbY8QAdy2WWE2t84GMVPcvTCZUAnbjByv/alien-1716056_960_720.jpg
## The Good
**1) Verification**
Trust won't be so much an issue as you can always log in and check any person's history, including comments he made 15 years ago. A background check by the employer's looking for a worker won't take so much time. Just get the person's username and viola you've run all the background check you need in less than a day. This same goes to the resume, as you could easily browse the person's past work.
**2) Immutability**
The only thing constant is a change they say. But with steemit blockchain technology, you can't change that promise or agreement you entered on last week because you could not follow it through. Or play a fast one on the will left by that family relative.
**3) Transparency**
This transparency is one of the reasons I love steemit. Everything you do here is open. Anyone with your username can view your posts, comments, replies, and even view your wallet account balance! So in a real world, you can't tell your landlord you don't have money for the next rent when he can just log in and see that $1m steem power balance :) The brother that needs school fees and you lied you are being owed just logged in and saw your balance of $500k. Governance would be super transparent. Those inflated projects, shady contractors, would have nowhere to hide. That would be a nightmare to a crooked politician, apologies to that good politician reading this <3
**4) Fast Transaction**
If the banking system of the world becomes like steemit, then the lightning fast transaction would be the way to go. I spent three hours today in the bank, all because I wanted to withdraw some cash. I hated over the counter withdrawal but got no choice as I have lost my debit card so using ATM is out of the question. The time it took me to fill the withdrawal slip is enough to finish two transactions on steemit!
https://steemitimages.com/DQmcuHoLN2XEwrfFgkYPQQCPWXvuTzYMFoRGAT2z4wS5vtf/racing-2392172_960_720.jpg
**5) Employment**
You would agree with me that steemit is a good model of how the current unemployment problem could be fixed. Just with an internet enabled device, a person in Africa or any part of the world could earn real money! This is great news when you check some country's staggering unemployment rate statistics.
https://steemitimages.com/DQmXmsooVke72UQvLRzHJt4iCaTftgSBHvPvJDsp7LyDuBh/samuel-holt-335104.jpg

Now let's take a look at the flip side. It's only fair we take a look at the "bad" side.
## The Bad
**1) No Privacy**
A secret told to one person is no longer a secret. Imagine how chaotic if everyone can truly see your worth. All your thoughts, secrets, dealings (especially the shady ones) by looking up your activities on the blockchain.
https://steemitimages.com/DQmcDzXwV23YnCkmp972qUiXFyX2PuDwYjRQo8V7xPgdpkp/magnifying-glass-1607208_960_720.jpg
**2) Mistakes are stored forever**
Nobody wants to read that story of their dad doing drugs or propagating hate messages since past records cannot be deleted. I couldn't think of any other downsides to real life as in steemit blockchain. But the good far outweighs the not-so-good. If you have more of the good or bad side of life as a steemit blockchain, do let me know in the comments section below. And hey, just in case you thought this was an academic exercise, it is not: if you can see this message, your life really is on the blockchain!

https://steemitimages.com/DQmUAmDiV41oKjbhXHKYn3J3b4ssECPiKn6zs7zxU3gjYtP/rolling-color-bar.gif
What do you think? Good observations, and outlook. With steemit the education aspects are enormous. I think that would be a good one to add. More people coming to steemit, means they need write, read, and learn to think, or they will be taken advantage of, and have less power to earn if they do not Learn. So Learning is an integral part of Steemit, *(the more one learns the more one earns)*.

True, I've learnt lots of things. Before joining here I know zilch about markdowns for instance. But now I'm learning everyday. It's a rollercoaster ride of loads of information to process daily. It makes steemit unique to other platforms.

Thanks for sharing @greenrun the intrigue part of steemit just as you mentioned is the access to uses profile and past activities. But the bad side to me, is insignificant

@greenrun this is really thoughtful. Everybody will strive to leave normal and accountable life since you know you are on blockchain. I am happy Fintechs are trying out blockchain technology.

This might not be as hypothetical as it seems at first glance. The world has been moving towards this for decades now, albeit in the one-sided way that governments prefer. The blockchain however opens the possibility of a world where we are all open books displayed in glass houses where *everyone* can be seen. It *is* a less forgiving world (what's that saying, "*anything that can be destroyed by the truth **should** be"?) so we will have to become kinder people to compensate. Under the glaring eye of the blockchain, we stand exposed and so must forgive each other. Not a bad vision. I think I could live with that.
