1. Follow thousands of people in hope that they will follow back in return<br>
2. Some people do follow back (in-fact a lot do!)<br>
3. After a few days or weeks simply unfollow all users you had followed<br>

This makes their followers numbers more than following and to a newbie user visiting the profile, it seems that these are really popular users.</p>

Thank you for sharing your experiences with getting up and running. The first years are the toughest. We have been at our for 6 years non-stop. And we probably have another 6 years to get everything the way we envision. Keep on working at it. Perseverance and hard work are the keys to success.

Seems like this happens on any network where money is involved and i'm not sure if its really abuse or violations its just shady i guess? Im sure it works pretty good as well.

Thanks @bitcoinflood. It is definitely shady. The problem is getting worse as these users have now started running services like resteem.com and resteemexposure.com!

Shady? Yes.  Violation?  Not at all.

That is the drawback to a non-moderated site....people are free to post and do basically what they want.  The only alternative is for people to downvote the individual(s) doing it.....and that  costs one voting power.

At the end of the day, we can only focus upon our own accounts and leave others to theirs.  Some will do shady stuff.  It is a part of life I guess.  Human greed is a tough thing to overcome.

It is definitely not a violation. The information is already their in the blockchain and these reports are just bringing that to surface. 

If people are free to do whatever then at least they should have access to what other people are doing :)

Another interesting post.   How do you even follow 11,000 people?  I would click all day long and still not even get close to that over the course of a month.

When people want money, they will do just about anything.

Besides, is it even an effective practice.  Getting people to follow simply to get them to follow might not pay great dividends.  If 5% of those 11K followed back, that is 500.  A nice number but do any of them actually even read the posters stuff?

Absolutely @taskmaster4450, there is no way humanly possible to click all day long. I am 100% sure that these people are running bots. 

It obviously does not get you quality followers but it does the job in fooling new users and also running scams like resteem services

True.  I never thought of that.  I guess the resteem services pull in a fair bit of money although I have seen some who felt they came out ahead on it. 

Resteeming is wonderful if it is of interest to people.  I see resteemed stuff on my feed that is of no interest to me whatsoever.  Plus, often it is newer people (of which I am one myself) resteeming stuff that is on the trending pages anyway.

Anytime there is a system people will try to game it.  I guess it is the darker side of human nature.

I agree with @taskmaster4450.  "...but do any of them actually even read the posters stuff?"  I'm not sure how much value followers actually bring when the poster themselves may not be producing anything of real value.

I don't really care how many followers one has, really, or whether or not they extend an effort to gather them.  I simply follow those whom I find are adding value or interesting content.

The sad truth is that a lot of people fall for the follower count and end up throwing money into resteem services like resteem.com
