This is not going to be a gushy mushy post about how I love Steemit, rather something unique about the platform that I wanted to share. It’s a post of how we treat one another in the world and what we can learn from our new relationships with fellow Steemians that are always implicit and warrant some real talk.

## <center> In a World of Resumes…  </center>

<b>
More so than we would like to admit, this entire world operates on a “resume” mentality. In every cultural context, we color the way we look at people depending on their wealth, professional status, physical appearance, educational history, and so much more. It’s natural that we are judged partially by what we have done and what we have achieved. Unfortunately, in many places around the globe, the weight of this consideration is heavier.

Take Korea for instance. Often misunderstood as “superficial,” Koreans socially place a tremendous amount of weight on what we call “specs.” Where you went to school, where you live (which infers your financial level), where you work, how much you earn, what your accent is like, your physical appearance overall, and so on. Many times, you’re asked some of these questions as soon as you meet someone for the first time. On business cards, it isn’t uncommon to have the logo of your university if it was a reputable one. 

In Korea, your history/resume becomes the single defining component of your “worth.” 

This obviously creates complications when it comes to human relationships. We’re not walking resumes and we are so often frustrated by being judged in ways other than our current character and ambition. This doesn’t just happen in Korea too. It’s less spoken in America but those titles and those “specs” are just as important in professional/social contexts. 

Is there ever going to be a solution to this?

## <center> Judgement Based on Action </center>

This is what I appreciate about Steemit. Many of my friends/commenting-colleagues on this platform have no face to me. They have no list of “specs.” They have no aspects of their unspoken lives that color the way I see them. 

We form relationships based on our content. 

I don’t just mean the themes of what we write and what topics we cover. I mean that we understand each other almost purely from what the person produces in tone, spirit, quality, consistency, etc. Intelligence and social level can be inferred sometimes, but I do believe this website rewards a full in-the-moment presentation of one’s self. 

As a Korean American that for so long has struggled with accepting this “spec” aspect of Korean society, Steemit is such a refreshing place. No one cares what I look like, where I went to school, how much money I make, etc. They only seem to care of how earnestly I contribute to the site. 

Steem on. Steem on!

제가 스팀잇 #KR, 스팀잇을 정말 사랑하는 이유가 여기있습니다. 제가 한국 교포 2세로 자라 한국 갈때마다 숨막히는것이있습니다. 
스펙 따지는 것입니다. 

대학에 들어가서 한국에서 온 친구들을 처음 만나며 너무 깜짝 놀라웠습니다. 우리의 대화는 나이가 몇인지, 그 사람은 어느 대학 무슨 과 나왔는지, 집안이 어떤지, 외모, 성형수술, 어느 동네 사는지 말을 계속 하고 이것으로 사람을 판단하는 것을요. 솔직히 말하고 생각하면 불편했습니다. 

근데 스팀에서 사람들은 내가 어떻게 생겼는지도 모르고 어디 학교갔는지, 어디 일했는지, 돈이 얼마인지 상관없잖아요. 그냥 이곳에서는 우리가 서로 행동하고, 말하고 싶은것에 의해서 관계가 만들어 지잖아요. 

우리가 여기서 서로를 판단하는 것은 서로의 행동 의해서, 말 의해서. 어디서 왔는지, 무엇을 했는지를 보다 중요한것은 지금 그 사람이 이순간에 모하는지, 무슨 의견을 말하는지. 
다른분들이 웃길면 나도 재미있고, 심각한 중요한 콘텐츠 만들면 나도 이해하려고 하고, 커뮤니티 키울라고 하면 함께하고..

이순간에 우리의 행동에 의해 관계를 키우는게 너무 좋고 세상도 이럴 수 있으면 좋겠습니다.

…“스펙” 말구요…
내가 서울에 도착할 때 모든 사람들이 서로한테 이렇게 대할 수 있으면 좋을텐데요...

I agree. People are judged by the quality of their posts which becomes popular due to the amount of steem power , reputation and followers. 
Unfortunately your story is true in  most countries and societies hence why our young people are star addicted. Steem is great because it is a platform which gives you the opportunity to write and comment without thinking of race ,  region, color or religion. Good post

That is one of the reasons why I also like steemit. All the schooling, wealth and connections do not necessarily make a good man. It therefore is impossible to judge anyone by these criteria.

우리 사회엔 스펙이 재능을 가려버리는 일이 너무나 많죠 ...  사실 스펙이 리크루팅의 입장에선 가장 신뢰성높은 지표이지만, 사람을 대함에 있어선 정말 아무짝에도 쓸모없는 것이라는 생각을 합니다.  학벌이 좋지 않아도 뛰어난 감을 가지고 뛰어난 아이디어를 가진 사람들이 많으니까요~ 정말 스팀잇에서 만큼은 더 자유로워지고 싶네요~~ 좋은 글 잘보았습니다 ^^

I think another part that's big for me personally that I didn't explain in the post is how in real-life situations with friends and family, we're pressured to act a certain way. At least for me, I find myself tailoring my behavior depending who I'm with. For some reason, that reservation is not a factor here.

개인적으로 온라인 활동에 대해 부정적인 생각이 강했었는데,
그 이유가 익명성으로 인해 사람들 간의 배려와 조심성(?)부족 등이었습니다.

뭔가 따져서 공통점이 나와야 하고 그것으로 뭉치는 것이 한국의 특이한(?)특징이니깐요..
아무래도 한민족(단일민족)이라서 그렇게 문화가 형성된것 같기도 하고...처음부터 미국처럼 다양한 문화 배경을 가진 사람들이 아니었으니깐요..
그러나 한국도 점차 세계화 되면서 바뀌어 가고 있다고 봅니다.
앞으로 좀더 나아질거예요~!

단일 민족에서의 공통점이 나와야 하고 차이점도 나와야 해서 그런것 같습니다. 비슷한 겉모습, 비슷한 교육과정을 거치는 속에서  더 특별한 사람임을 보이기 위해  스펙과 외적인 요소들에 더 무게를 두는것아닐까 생각해봅니다. 네 점점 세대가 지나며 바뀌기도,  나아지겠죠? 긍정적인 코멘트 고맙습니다.
