Since the [original](https://steemit.com/steemit/@happyme/100-sbd-give-away) idea behind these giveaways was to help redfish and minnows, and with the proliferation of autobots in the system, I believe we need a method of building REAL community. As long as I have enough Steem Power, I will be up-voting those who participate in these weekly contests so that at minimum participants will receive increased rank and a small amount of Steem. If each participant ALSO up-votes the others here, we will form a small community of little fish helping each other out! Participating here involves actually reading the post and making a reply, which is what the platform is asking us to do.

# How this contest works

* The contest is intended for lower-ranking members who could use the money (**whales and dolphins are encouraged to upvote and increase the prize pool and/or comment rewards. Your support is greatly appreciated!**).
* The contest will run for 1 week and close on Oct. 18, 2017.
* Entrants will select a number between 111 and 666 and in the replies to this post they will write, "ENTRY GUESS" followed by their chosen number. This should be the first thing they write, followed by anything they feel will add value to the post. This can be something as simple as a famous quote you copy and paste from the Internet (as long as you provide attribution), something of interest to you that you would like to share, a joke, etc.
* The first person to guess the number rolled by 3 dice rolls wins (NOTE that there will be no numbers 7, 8, 9 or 0). Subsequent winners will be in order of post or by closest guess. Prizes will be awarded until all available funds are used.
* The prize pool will consist of **ALL** the **SBD** earned by this posting **PLUS** a minimum bonus of 2 SBD to which 0.25 SBD will be added for each valid entry up to a maximum of 5 SBD added to the post reward.
* In order to win, you MUST have upvoted the original post!

That is a very wise saying. We all have different ideas about things and that is why I love to talk about ideas... it broadens our perspective. If we always stick around people who think as we do, it feels more comfortable, but limits our potential. Stretching outside our comfort zone can often bring new knowledge.

Hi! Thank you for  the prize, this is my second week in a row winning so I will not enter this week, but just to count towards the 0.25sbd, I'll put in entry guess 111.

My friend @arctan and I figured out that if you enter late, you have a large advantage. My original entry was 245, the lowest entry at the time. Someone then put 244 which means he gets the prize between 111 and 244 and I got 245 to like 300, half way to the next highest, thus lowering my odds at winning. So right before the time ended, I changed the entry guess to 243, thus having the greatest odds of winning, and ultimately winning. 

To prevent this, we propose a new system. Winner must be within 20 of the range, thus everyone has the same chance. If there's more than one person, the prize is split between ALL in the range, NOT the closest. However, if your number is exact, you keep the whole prize. This ensures maximum fairness and no one like me can manipulate our odds.

Aha... So there is more to it than just plain luck. Good for you for thinking this all through. Obviously you CAN have some discretion regarding the odds of winning. You are very astute in looking at the greatest range of possibilities. But what if the dice rolls came out with a higher number? Then that huge range of possibilities would be wasted.

If the winner(s) MUST be within a range of 20, what happens if there is no guess within the range? Then the prize is NOT distributed and added to the following week?

Support  you role a 213 
The range would be 143 - 233, rather than 193 - 233

Let's say there are entry guesses 241, 244, 356, 451, 612
Let's say the dice roles were 2,4,4 (range is 224 - 314)
Both 241 and 244 are within the range
However, the number guessed was exact, so 244 gets the whole prize (or maybe even a bonus, up to you)

Let's say the dice roles are 2,4,3 (range 223 - 313)
Both 241 and 244 are within the range so they BOTH get the price regardless of how close they are, therefore the prize is halved and given to each person

Let's say the dice roles were 1,4,1 (range 121 -  161)
Then no one gets the prize and it jackpots to the next week!

This way, it ensures the prize is always fair and no one can manipulate their odds. 
If you were to let the current tactic continue, it's unhealthy as everyone would just wait for the last hour to cast their entry guess

Obviously we were thinking the same thing as far as the strategy went for picking numbers, and I saw through the same possibilities you did.  One reason that I posted with so much time to spare was because I knew I would be out and offline when the deadline came.  You made the right move at the right time, so congrats.

As for your new system, conceptually it is good but it is mathematically flawed.  I'll go into further detail in response to the appropriate comment.

Almost missed this entry as it does NOT show up in my REPLIES feed because it went under the reply by cryptoeater. It also did not BEGIN with your entry, but by highlighting it in bold, at least it stands out. 
Rolling 3 the same numbers in a row is rare. I think next time I will use the lottery style of choosing a winner; I really like that idea.

I was thinking about the newer way of rounding up the dice, I can't help but think an easier method altogether would be to use 2d10 dices instead of 3d6 dices. And instead have the contestants guess between 0-100.  That way you can keep your system of: whoever guesses the closest. That would be less math for you.

Yep mate sorry (It is difficult to handle the witness account and the personal one) I didn't realized i was logged with the wrong one... 

Since to have support i need to publish a lot in english decided to use the @reveur (which i inherited from my associate in the radio who left steemit after 5 minutes) to post in spanish and also is the trail voter account...
