This week is national volunteer week in Australia, I do quite a bit of volunteer based stuff such as volunteering at headspace which is a mental health organisation in Australia, aimed to raise awareness and tackle mental health problems in society. In headspace I am training up to do talks to schools and sporting clubs and other groups to raise awareness for mental health in society, as well as to take action on such an important issue. I also volunteer my time at Radio Adelaide, and Fresh FM which is located in the same building in the city. I work at reading the news there for local listeners to hear as well as provide a current affairs on a national a current affairs program called ‘The Wire.’

Over the years I have also done volunteer work for my local hut community centre in the Adelaide hills as I have made videos for them for promotional work. I think that volunteer work is really about giving, giving, giving and giving and you may not get paid in return, but I do believe in some sense of kalma and I think that  if you do good, then good things will happen in your return. You can take Steemit for example ( forget the paid thing I just said lol) but the more you give and give and give and volunteer to this wonderful community, the more we are able to gain in return ( e.g steem, sbd and steem power). I think there is a lot to be said for volunteer work, and I can give you a prime example of what has happened to me whilst volunteering at Radio.

Not only have I been able to learn a range of different skills at Radio, I have also been very fortunate enough to open doors for other opportunities in the business. I got working with a friend of mine called ‘Clint’ who works with me at Radio Adelaide, we do the news together in the mornings. He also works at a commercial station in the city and wondered if I were interested to come and check it out. Fortunately for me I was eager and keen to do this and subsequently after a series of events, I have landed myself on there talent bank, should anyone be called in sick for the news, so I am able to replace them. So this is what I mean, the more you give and give and give, opportunities tend to arise in society and our workplaces. I was also offered television experience at a station which I took, and now I have a show reel of work to provide!

Volunteer work, although it may seem like a bore or a drag to some actually has huge amounts of benefits not only to you but the community. Even for example the ‘steemit’ community, the more you dedicate yourself to this platform ( and I know I have said all this before in other posts) the greater the opportunities there are and for people to notice and see what you are doing! The great thing about volunteer work in your local community, council, or online, is that anyone can do it and at any age and I think it’s something that truly does benefit your well being too as a person. I think that it has the tendency to make us happier as we are doing good for society. I hope everyone takes something out of this post and to remember that because it is national volunteer week in Australia, then we should all do something more to contribute to our communities!
