Saya sudah memesan novel ini jauh hari, ketika masih masa penyelesaian akhir. “Nanti kalau sudah terbit, saya pesan dua ya,” begitu kata saya waktu itu. Ia membalas “Oke!”
Novel ini baru tiba di Banda Aceh dua hari lalu. Azhari mengatakan bahwa ia memesan pada penerbit baNANA sebanyak 150 buah. Jumlah ini sesuai dengan yang memesan secara pribadi kepada si penulis. “Kalau ada yang mau beli lagi, terpaksa kupesan lagi. Soalnya, novel ini lumayan tebal, tidak berani aku pesan banyak-banyak,” ujarnya.
Novel ini bisa dikatakan sebagai novel tertebal di Indonesia dalam abad ini. Damien Dematra memang pernah menulis buku tertebal di dunia (5.247 halaman) sehingga mendapatkan piagam MURI. Namun, buku yang ia tulis adalah buku ilmiah, tepatnya biografi Obama. Boleh dikatakan buku dengan judul “Obama dan Pluralisme” itu beranjak dari sejumlah data primer dan skunder.
Sebaliknya, novel “Kura-Kura Berjanggut” dengan ketebalan 956 ini adalah sebuah karya fiksi yang memuat sejumlah kebenaran sejarah. Boleh dikatakan, novel ini menjadi perpaduan antara faktual dan fiksional.
Banyak orang menulis novel dengan mengandalkan sejumlah peristiwa sejarah lalu terjebak dalam istilah modern “Novel Sejarah”. Saya berani katakan bahwa *Kura-Kura Berjanggut *tidak demikian, kendati ia beranjak dari sejumlah fakta sejarah: Aceh dan Lamuri, ini bukan novel sejarah.
Lantas, apa hubugan *Kura-Kura Berjanggut *dan *Pembunuh Ketujuh *yang menjadi judul artikel ini? Seperti notes yang diberikan Azhari dalam lapik sampul novel yang diberikan kepada saya, tentu saja bubungannya karena dihubungkan.
“Kura-Kura Berjanggut” adalah novel Azhari Aiyub. “Pembuh Ketujuh” adalah judul antologi cerpen saya. Dalam novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut terjadi sejumlah pergelutan, fitnah hingga menjurus kepada pembunuhan. Lantas, siapa yang menjadi pembunuh tersebut? Mungkin saja “Si Pembunuh Ketujuh” begitu isyarat catatan Azhari.
Bagaimana wujud si pembunuh ketujuh? Apakah ia yang berusaha membunuh Nuruddin dalam novel Kura-Kura Berjanggut? Mengapa pula judul novel ini: Kura-Kura Berjanggut? Siapakah si “kura-kura” tersebut? Semua itu hanya mungkin Anda dapat dan ketahui jika membaca buku ini secara teliti dan saksama, tidak buru-buru seperti Anda menyelesaikan sejumlah novel lain.
Pada sampul buku ini tidak ada gambar kura-kura, tetapi judulnya menggunakan kata kura-kura. Inilah yang membuat sejumlah pertanyaan dengan ajakan “Baca baca baca” lalu silakan “tulis” apa yang Anda rasakan seusai membaca novel ini, sebuah karya imajinatif yang melebihi tebalnya novel “Arus Balik” Pramoedya Ananta Toer (778 halaman)!
