We’ve been building the musician’s Guide since the end of 2017. During that time, the most common question people ask us is: *“How can I get involved?”*

It turns out that when musicians on Steem hear about the Musician’s Guide, a percentage of them find the idea to be awesome. They want to do more than cheer on from the sidelines - they want to get in on the action and actually help make it happen.

That’s part of why we’ve been able to hire around 10 different people so far to contribute to this project. Our team is handling graphics, early draft reading and feedback, topical research, editing, and more, all while we grow with each new week.

However I realize that we could do even better to include as many people as possible in this porject. Community is valuable and it looks like we have a chance to build this one up.

<h2>How to Join the Musician’s Guide Community Chat</h2>

As soon as you click the invite link you’ll find yourself in the public #general chat, our first community channel.

Anyone who is enthusiastic about the project, including you, can come hang out and get closer to what we’re doing. Opportunities will probably be available first and foremost to the people who are in the community chat - and that includes future paying Steem Gigs.

As we release our first book, *How to Get 1000 Followers on Steemit*, members of the community chat will have early access and a chance to provide feedback that leads to final revisions for the book.

For the second book, we’ll find even bigger ways to get our community involved. We could draft users from the community to interview for the book. Or maybe we’ll include links to steem-related musical projects from members of the chat somewhere in one of the eBooks. The sky is the limit for these kinds of ideas.

<h2>Why Create a Community Chat?</h2>

Creating this chat is all about creating a *platform* for improved community growth and engagement amongst ambitious musicians on Steem.

Over time this community chat will be home to more full-time Steemians than any other music group on this blockchain. It’ll be a tight-knit powerhouse crew of steem-based musicians.

I suspect that cultivating this kind of community group will lead to great things in the future. It’ll be a springboard for future projects and a place for all of us to bounce ideas around. This will be crucial as we move towards more ambitious concepts.

<h3>A Quick Note on Spam</h3>

Nobody is allowed to link to their own Steem posts or their own music within the chat. This is a simple way to avoid any self-promotion and instead to focus on valuable conversations.

In my experience, any chat that allows self-promotion or link sharing in general is doomed to become a spamfest. We will fight hard against that phenomenon. I hate spam!! If anything, this policy will become stricter over time. The only goal is to destroy and prevent spam.
