 <center> <sub> Detail of a painting that I’m currently working on. </center> </sub> <br> <div class=text-justify> Everybody knows that it’s hard being a full time artist. You depend on clients or sales of your works. **There’s no certainty if you’re gonna be able to eat in the next few months.** It’s even harder if you’re living in a place where art is seen as just “for fun” or just a decoration at home and not as an investment. I started art professionally on September 2017 and took a break on February 2018 shortly after my first one man show. My whole 2018 was spent inside my room just doing nothing and Steeming, for fun. I literally didn’t do anything about art and stuff. In order for you to be able to build your name/reputation in the art scene, you have to be aggressive. You have to be active and to make noise. I didn’t. Because once again I was on a break to focus on my mental shit because I was still in shock for what happened during my last year in college. People around you, especially your parents, will have expectations for you after getting your college degree. **They expect you to have big salary right away, be successful right away, be famous right away.** I wish common sense is common. Because if it was, they wouldn’t have those expectations in the first place. I am nothing in the art scene, yet. Nobody knows me yet. I am just starting and I don’t have that many connections yet. I am not a child of a famous personality. I wish they have noticed that and stop expecting me to be able to sell all my works. Most of my works don’t sell cos nobody knows me yet. Also because I am honest with my work and I don’t try to “blend in” and conform to what’s selling in my place. They like pleasant-looking stuff, I don’t. ### I can’t fake being positive all the time. The very important lesson that I have learned is that **it’s okay that your works don’t sell for now, as long as you are happy with your works.** Happiness is very hard to find... at least in my case. Don’t try to impress people because you will never please everyone. ### As long as you are honest with your works, someone will find it and will appreciate it. <br> ***And I am happy with what I do now.*** </div>

Thanks! I felt it needed to be said. Most artists that I know are painting about Mindanao culture stuff and pretend they like it even though I know deep inside that’s not their real art. It pays the bills, but they don’t have to pretend that they really like painting about it just because it sells. Some are also thinking I’m weird because 90% of my works are self portraits. Well, I’m just being honest. 🤷🏻♀️ The point is, don’t be afraid to be different. So what if they think we are weirdos. It’s a lot better than being fake. It also makes me happy that I encourage people like you. You do what makes you happy. That encourages me too. :)
